Had a marvelous Samhain including a very special 1st degree Initiation. I think Initiations are probably my single favorite ceremony to perform. More than handfastings, more than house blessings, more than all the other wonderful rites I get to be a part of. Initiations have always been special.

Blessed Samhain to all! The veil is thin, and we honor and welcome our ancestors. May their memory and wisdom be a little closer to heart this Season.

A few more spooky scarecrow on my daily walk
October 9, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Milwaukie has an annual Halloween scarecrow contest. My community has had a big influx of people and businesses. The artistic skill of these have correspondingly increased. Its gone from "Amateur Hour w/kids" to "Pinterest Halloween Pro w/adults" Makes me a little sad, but they are amazing.

Weekend video rental watch includes Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) and Zorba the Great (1964), neither of which I've seen.

You know how cats rub against new things brought into the home in order to "mark" them as theirs? Mine do it a little differently. They throw up on the thing instead. I knew it wouldn't take long for that comforter to be "inspected". Cats make it hard to justify getting nice things.

PNW fall has finally arrived. Cooler, cloudy and rainy. I love it. Time to lean into my Fall/Winter cooking. First thing: Chili and cornbread. Shredded cheddar, sour cream, and whipped butter are part of the meals. Should be good for much of the week.

Horrors on the morning after a night in War Ravaged Portland. They have only whole organic milk this morning with no low fat options. When will this madness end?

War Ravaged Portland. Please send organic hummus and fresh roasted coffee beans by multi-ethnic persons playing ukuleles. Supplies are low and we are clearly in chaos here.

Friday night video store rental picks. Feeling rather eclectic.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

The Lego Batman Movie

Strangers on a Train

400 Days

This place is over 40 years old and a piece of the 80s & 90s preserved out of time. Its glorious and they have great ice cream too! Great American Video

Wishing you all the happiest of harvest seasons this Fall Equinox. The light is in balance, but tilting towards darkness now. Though it is still warm here in the PNW, the nights do sound and smell of Autumn. We are now in my favorite time of year and I'm so happy to be here again!

In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, I'm finding a degree of comfort in my cat who continues to dig through all the towels he can get ahold of and throws up on the carpet. I throw a towel on the floor, and he spends a half hour trying to make origami out of it.

Wow, someone in the neighborhood has a lot of blooming Jasmine right now. I can't see it but sure can smell it.

Milo the Drama Boy having vapors, often flopping dramatically, doing his "Me smol weak fading hunger father plz help" meows. He can see the bottom of his food dish, you see, and that means the Apocalypse is nigh.

While that may be true, it still isn't feeding time.

I cannot tell you how often I get, not the infamous "GenZ stare", but instead, the "GenZ walkaway". Their expectation is I'm completing the transaction electronically (often even when I'm holding bills) but I prefer--have always preferred--cash transactions.
