Always my favourite read of the year - Ipsos Perils of Perception. People (still!) tend to overestimate the scale of issues that matter to them. Most interestingly social media now receives the most blame for these misperceptions #socialweb

Lots of reasons why increased polarisation is bad - a key one is that trust in institutions is harder to achieve, because "benevolence" is an element of trust, but much harder to convince on if "the other side" is in power. US an outlier, but GB not in great place @policyatkings.bsky.social

Considering we found 60% of the public would support a ban on social media for under 18s and only 17% opposed a ban; a ban on under 16s is likely to be even more popular. The public mood has turner strongly in favour of a series of tougher measures to keep kids off social media.

Talking at a workshop on polarisation this week - always worth remembering the UK is NOT the US: we've always had more liberal attitudes on average; US has gone through extraordinary polarisation/party sorting since 1990; BUT some signs of smaller/emerging gap in UK...
