Wrote a sample starter for using Kafka using the Confluent-Kafka Go package and Docker Compose. Please let me know how I can improve it!
Go Kafka 👏
I’ve been learning Golang for a few months and building small projects to learn both the language features and familiarize myself with the API of popular libraries to do ‘backendy’ things.

Can't help but notice that every Database company has a podcast. Are people really listening to that many podcasts?

Learned about deterministic replay in the context of building a uni-processor fault tolerant VM. Cloud providers have done a great job in abstracting the nuances of VMs away but so many interesting things happen under the hood #dsos

@davidpierce.xyz You talked about how Netflix's market is limited to Hollywood which is not a big market size like Google this Friday.

I think this is why Netflix is going into games. Imo, Netflix may build some elements of Twitch (games) before it has elements of YouTube. Games market is huge!

Learned about how documents are uploaded in a service like Google drive / Dropbox to the database over the network.

Files are divided into chunks which are uploaded and assembled on the storage side. Similar to how network packets are routed between nodes on a network when you type bsky.app!

A lot of AI companies seem to be missing how people use or want to use AI tools.

AI tools today are fundamentally 'creativity' boosters. People have less tolerance for AI slop when it comes to emotional services like messages / emails or fact based services like news.

TikTok ban can have some interesting knock on effects which powers to be are likely not thinking about.

The app installed on your current phone can work but not if you buy a new one. Will Apple sell fewer iPhones this quarter?

YT Shorts and Reels the only game in town or a new startup emerges?

Apple did a fantastic job marketing Apple Intelligence. They hacked the term 'AI', put billboards and ads everywhere, but every time I've tried to use it, the results have disappointed me.

Message replies are incorrect or flat, notifications summary is well... you can see for yourself below.
