GOTY list for every year of my life, only games I've finished, according to their NA release dates (unless they didn't have one). Definitely some years where I haven't played much, including 2024:

2024: Rise of the Golden Idol
2023: Hi Fi Rush
2022: Triangle Strategy
2021: Inscryption
2020: Hades
Went back to Blue Prince to finish what little I thought I had left to do. Turns out there was quite a bit more than I thought and getting through it really was the cherry on top for the whole game. Rising it to the faves list.

Animal Well
A puzzle metroidvania is a weird concept, and yet it works perfectly in Animal Well. Incredibly creative, intriguing and just delightfully designed.

Venba
Fantastic, concise, touching and extremely relatable little game.
Go talk to your parents; unless they are absolute assholes, in that case fuck em, fly high brother.

Monster Train
The gateway drug into Slay the Spire. Really enjoyed it, nothing wrong with it, it's just that Slay the Spire is too fucking good.
(no screenshot cuz my files got corrupted for some reason.)

I'm gonna start learning GameMaker.
Let this post mark the starting point of my (hopefully) eventual game release

TUNIC.
Absolutely enthralling. Detail is the birthplace of greatness, and TUNIC's differential is all about detail. Never have I exclaimed "son of a bitch" to myself as many times after finding something new as I did in this game. For as complex as the puzzles get, they never feel obtuse. Top-tier.

The Séance of Blake Manor.
First complete of the year!
Great exploration detective game, but the first night sets the bar a bit too high for the rest of the game. Still, the presentation is awesome, and the narrative is fantastic and both very well written and acted.

my only TGA prediction is: some trailer has AI stuff, big blowup when someone points it out, Geoff either ignores it or claims they didn't know, people stop giving a shit.

That World Cup draw event has to have been one of the most cynical, inappropriate and boring things I've ever seen.
It's a draw. Not an awards show. Not a concert. Not SNL.
Just do the draw.

jfc that's a cursed list (except Splinter Cell possibly, i didn't even know that existed)
Sonic 3 was NOT nominated for best video game adaptation, but the following are:
A Minecraft Movie
Devil May Cry
Splinter Cell Deathwatch
The Last of Us Season Two
Until Dawn

It is likely that the jury forgot about Sonic 3 since it released so early in the eligibility period.

oh boy it's fuck the game awards season

Hey Youtube, stop translating video titles with AI for no fucking reason, it's annoying and nobody likes it.

If the game ends up being good, which is very likely reading this, these guys are and have been living the absolute dream.
BREAKING: Silksong will be out on September 4. Two weeks from today. Really.

Often, games that take 7+ years to make are plagued by mismanagement and painful burnout. But for Silksong? Team Cherry was having a blast. They still are.

Why ‘Silksong’ Took Seven Years to Make
The highly anticipated indie game has been in production for so long that it’s become an internet meme

As every time a new One Piece opening drops, I gotta whine. It's great, it would be better if it was longer than standard length as they were before.

Don't know if they secretly improved the pull odds in Sword of Convallaria because of the anniversary, but I have gotten like 6 new characters in the last 2 weeks. Crazy luck for F2P

The Last Spell is so good man, I don't think I've felt as much relief beating a level in a game before.

As someone who is 99% ignorant of vtubers: Why would you need an agency at all to be or exist as one?

Ozzy really fucking went "bye everyone" and meant it huh.
RIP legend

The Roottrees are Dead is very cool. Yet another child of Obra Dinn that is outstanding.

Dead Cells is so good brother, so good

Great, but bring back Tango-chan
Tango Gameworks office reopens with new website, logo, and hiring for unannounced action game tangogameworks.com

Liking Blue Prince a lot, it's kinda like a more approachable, more standardly roguelike, yet still pretty deep Void Stranger. Still a lot to see, but it's my GOTY for now since I'm not gonna play much else from this year.
