"view it from here, from closer to near, awake me"

Host of From Milo To Misawa. Convincing dilettante, boomer puroresu historian. He/him.
Reading Ancient Evenings because of my own ancient Egypt literary project, and I really was underprepared for "protagonist's spirit is forced to fellate his great-grandpa who shares his name (through multi-chapter flashbacks) in a literalization of Jungian archetypes"

Truly think that a good 20% of my issues stem specifically from the fact that, when Mom had DHS remove me from her custody (I was 7), she had me watch The NeverEnding Story (for the first time!) with her. In ten minutes I went from watching a horse drown to locking myself in the bathroom.

listen, feel however you want to feel about Paradise Lost, but I do find it darkly funny how Adam turns into alpha-build Andrew Tate for a few hundred lines there after the Fall

after it was referenced on @discordpod.bsky.social, I am now listening to the Ray Manzarek rock arrangement of Carmina Burana, which sounds like if you told a bunch of 1981 LA session pros to cut a Magma record

As an addendum, I finally started writing my ancient Egyptian epic poem to stick it to Robert

Just spent three days platinuming Grim Fandango because I didn't find out that there was a run button until I was walking back up to the greenhouse with Sal's Number Nine ticket at the very end

The Killer Khan bio is my best work, but I think Yoshimura is my most important piece: a journey through early puroresu that isn't dominated by Rikidozan, Baba, or Inoki. Very excited for the new eyes that Charles will bring to my work.

Happy Valentine's Day. I planned to read this satirical poem at a literary open mic this evening, but alas, PDX's annual snowstorm decided to show up.

I have substantially expanded my PWO profile on Motoyuki Kitazawa, with information about Kitazawa's early life, details on his practical contributions to New Japan and the UWF, and some important corrections.

Had a dream last night where I went to a screening of Terminator 2, but little John Connor was in the audience, and all the other guys kept getting kicked out for trolling him about his destiny

Today I'm writing a substantial revision of my PWO profile for Motoyuki Kitazawa, one of puroresu's eldest still living.

Mighty Inoue's passing and the obits I've read have made it clear that my work must stand as the definitive English obituaries for these legends, when their time comes.

Fighter Fujimoto struggles through a Big Akihira leg lock, 1982. Fujimoto was a pioneer of hobbyist puroresu, who got his start holding free shows with fellow JSDF servicemen in the latter half of the 70s. At right is Akihira and Fujimoto at Rikidōzan's grave.

Good news: I found a 1998 South Korean TV documentary about Kintaro Oki on my old hard drive, which I need for a future podcast episode.
Bad news: I don't have subtitles to translate!
