My biggest takeaway from this class is that there is so much more to communication than just the words we speak. We communicate in almost every moment of our lives, and having a better understanding of that communication allows us to become more well rounded people. #UTcommtheory

The most memorable theory for me was the uses and gratifications theory. I am a media comm student so this really stuck out to me. I am also a person who tries to be mindful about my media consumption, so I really enjoyed learning about this theory. #UTcommtheory

The Agenda Setting Theory is still relevant today. Maybe to a lesser extent, but still relevant. We help curate our feeds, but each platform still has agendas. An example is that on X I recently got an ad to join ICE, which isn’t something that would come up on my feed normally. #UTcommtheory

This is an article from NBC, posted less than a day ago. This shapes public agenda because it is pretty much saying, “this is what you missed and what you should be looking at!” Using the word “biggest” in the title implies that you must know these things. #UTcommtheory

I have a parasocial relationship with Kelly O’hara, a former professional soccer player. I was a huge fan of hers when she played and now she has a podcast and works in media. I am a soccer player and my major is media communication so she is definitely a source of inspiration for me! #UTcommtheory

I always forget that people can see what I like on Instagram! I have had friends message me and ask me why I liked something. Sometimes when I am about to like something I remember that it is public, so I will use monitoring to save face. #UTcommtheory

One way AI has positively impacted my education is in language learning. I am a Spanish minor and when I want to practice outside of class, I can use AI. It will correct my grammar, pronunciation, and spelling to help me improve. #UTcommtheory

When I was younger, my parents accidentally signed me up for a boys summer soccer camp. I went for the whole two weeks, but I definitely engaged in nonassertive separation communication. I didn’t really talk to anyone and I found one other girl that I stuck with. #UTcommtheory

I respond best to participation. When I know my voice is being heard and considered, I feel cared for. If I feel cared for, I am more willing to work hard for a company. #UTcommtheory

Some police forces could benefit from a culture shift. So many police departments do not value empathy or vulnerability and it causes major issues in the police’s work and in their own personal lives. #UTcommtheory

This meme shows post decision rationalization. Sometimes, even when I have the time to do my homework early, I tell myself that I will do better if I wait because I work well under pressure. In reality though, I do much better work when I have plenty of time. #UTcommtheory

I support the main claim of MMT. It is prevalent in my life, especially with fiends and family who I do not see in person very often. My sister, who lives in Florida, and I interact through many different media. Often we have multiple conversations occurring through separate media. #UTcommtheory

I have always seen a bit of a problem with “family blogger” accounts on social media because often, these accounts share very private information about children who do not really have the capacity to understand their own privacy boundaries. #UTcommtheory

Axiom 6 often applies to my life! Every semester I get a nervous starting new classes because I might not know the professors or the buildings, but after I start them I realize that I have done all of this before! It’s not suddenly different so there’s no need to be worried. #UTcommtheory

Someone I met in high school was not the best at self-disclosure rules. She would disclose personal issues in a conversation that was very lighthearted and upbeat. Not that I didn’t want to hear her and help her, it was just the wrong context and I didn’t feel I knew her well enough. #UTcommtheory

I grew up in a consensual family. My parents had the most say and influence, but they always included and considered me and my siblings in the conversation. If we were going to go to a restaurant for dinner, my parents would give 2 or 3 options and my siblings and I would choose. #UTcommtheory
