This is a UK pressing I picked up today. A bit used with some light crackle, but this pressing sounds so sonically amazing still. I'm pretty astounded with the sound of this record right now.

1990 was easily one of the best years ever for Detroit Hip Hop. So many dope releases that year.

Here's one from M.C. Kool Chief (James Williams), a 12" single for "Use Your Mind" b/w "Dope".

The single was produced by James Williams along with the legendary Mike E. Clark.

Floating Opera was a garage/psychedelic rock band from Ann Arbor, Michigan. This was the band's first commercial release on Fontana Records in 1969.

Their self-titled album was released in 1971 on Herbie Mann's Embryo Records.

Detroit born former NBA basketball star Derrick Coleman had a label called 44 Ways and the Detroit duo Born Suspicious was the flagship of that label.

Now wouldn't it have been nice if they actually put the artist's name Born Suspicious on the label for this record???? Smh 🤦

Dollar bin find. Fantastic album from Angela Bofill. And that face card is lethal.

I'm not sure what the future holds for all this Detroit Hip Hop research I'm doing, but one thing I know is that I don't want any of my work lost to time or the realities of the net. I let that happen once already but I won't again.

“I look at the Andrew Tate message of macho culture that’s absolutely rife. Parents need to understand that someone is in the ears of our children and raising them and if it’s not us then who is it? You’ve got to be openly talking with them because if you’re not other people are.”

I made a list on Discogs of obscure Detroit Hip Hop stuff I'm looking for. Let me know if you have anything that you are willing to part with for free or at a fair cheap rate.

This DJ Quik album "Quik is the Name" is still an incredible album. Quik really did put his fingerprint on how Hip Hop music is produced.
