ICE recruitment efforts appear openly calibrated to catch the attention of white nationalists and other right-wing extremists:

Whom Is ICE Actually Recruiting?
ICE has lowered standards to facilitate a massive hiring spree. Many of the new recruits are plainly unqualified. Are some also white supremacists or domestic terrorists?

⚠️ Health experts warn it is unethical to withhold a proven vaccine from newborns!

🍼 The halted trial would have given only half of 14,000 babies a hepatitis B vaccine at birth — despite strong evidence early vaccination saves lives.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

YES. ICE is an extra-judicial paramilitary force that has recruited numerous far-right white supremacists. Immigrants were the initial target, but it's evident anyone who opposes Trump is now a target. Dictators start with a seemingly legitimate force (often 'bodyguards'), then turn it on civilians.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

One of the issues that has come up again and again in my reporting on misinformation and social media is the massive influence social media companies have on research in the field.

Last night a preprint dropped that tries to get at this with some numbers. My piece in @science.org (and 🧪🧵 coming):
Nearly a third of social media research has undisclosed ties to industry, preprint claims
Industry-linked studies were also more likely to focus on particular topics, suggesting these ties may be skewing the field

Yes. This is where MAGA’s stances on measles vaccine and Greenland come together for me: In both cases there is a failure to remember/imagine how bad the past was, bolstered by this naive and cruel belief that a “strong” body/country can just go it alone.
“Americans are so accustomed to this basically peaceful, prosperous, and open world that they tend to think it is the normal state of international affairs, likely to continue indefinitely. They can’t imagine it unraveling, much less what that unraveling will mean for them.”
