Avid reader looking to create a happy place for bibliophiles everywhere 📚 Proud to be 🏳️‍🌈 Prouder to be a teacher. Hope to be LeVar Burton when I grow up.
Out this week (1-27), Saunders’ latest is “A Christmas Carol” for the 21st century, in which we are all Tiny Tim to the protagonist’s Scrooge. What purpose does a deathbed conversion serve—& what does repentance look like—when you’ve bought into your own lies? A must-read. #booksky

Out this week, @tkingfisher.com’s latest release is a gem of a book! When 9 goblin soldiers find themselves deep in enemy territory, facing dangerous magic, they must rely on their endearing quirks & an elven Dr. Dolittle. You’ll never think poorly of goblins again 💛 @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

This isn’t my standard type of review, but I have to say something about this book. I read it in a single sitting today, & then simply sat thinking about it for several minutes after. I read a lot, & the memory of many of those books has faded, but I know this one never will. Read it! #booksky

Really excited to announce my partnership with @inspiredquill.bsky.social, a non-profit company dedicated to helping authors in multiple countries independently publish their books! It’s a real honor to be given this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started!

I was lucky enough to read a lot of amazing books this year, but for a “Year-In-Review” post, it has to be all about Thomas Olde Heuvelt. He is the Millennial generation’s @stephenking.bsky.social. Fans of horror are privileged to live in the same world as him. #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

So, I guess my New Year’s Resolution is to become an expert on the Sherlock Holmes stories! Since I have this on my shelf now 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a snob about movie tie-in covers, but this one is a winner! Pretty colors, a pretty man, and a Ken in space! 🚀 👽 An incredible book by @andyweir19.bsky.social, I hope the movie does it justice! Get your copy @captainbluehen.bsky.social! #booksky

Rob Reiner was one of those rare directors who could turn a novel into a movie and not only respect the source material, but even elevate it. From King’s “The Body” (“Stand By Me”) to “The Princess Bride” and beyond, this man was a master. Rest In Peace.

“Moby Dick” is not a boring book, “The House of the Seven Gables” is better than “The Scarlet Letter,” and the movie version of “Logan’s Run” is better than the book. #booksky

“A woman’s hair is her glory,” & this book is @ayanagray.bsky.social’s. Beautifully written, she has given Medusa & her sisters something they’ve never had before: agency. A victim of circumstance & ill-behaved elites, Medusa is an everyday hero whose journey of empowerment is a must read. #booksky

Would love to hear examples of your “inner library.” I carry “The Time Machine” within me: I’ve read it five times. #booksky

@annanorth.bsky.social weaves the past & present into a striking tapestry showing the brevity & immortality that coexist in each of us. Also a love letter to our planet & an examination of the costs of modernization, this is one heck of powerful book. #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

I appreciate @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social for letting me post a review of @kaychronister.bsky.social’s superlative novel. This is a must-read, everyone, with a truly breathtaking description of place/setting. Incredibly, both comforting and claustrophobic!

On this Veteran’s Day, I find myself looking at my bookcase and thinking of these two masterpieces in particular. Thank you to all who served, with a special thanks to those (like the fantastic @philklay.bsky.social) who made art from their pain and shared it with us all.

How a book that began as a scourge of the establishment became, in the government's words, "an important part of our nation's history".

It's the 65th anniversary of Penguin winning the Lady Chatterley trial (they had 200,000 copies ready to go). I wrote about it a few years ago:
The book that changed Britain: why the Lady Chatterley’s Lover trial still matters 60 years later
D. H. Lawrence’s classic novel was his attempt to “make the sex relations valid and precious, instead of shameful”; the court case it prompted, and its revolutionary result, now stand as moments of na...
