yeah. palm os 5.x isnt a meaningful gain vs later 4.x releases from what i see in my tests

i love CloudPilotEmu getting support for 5.x but its just not worth the increased hw requirements imo. especially given 5.x only apps are generally very rare and dont provide a ton of utility

the CloudPilotEmu project got fundamental PalmOS 5.x support by way of the Tungsten E2. This is great to see.

After playing around some, I think it's safe to say using the m515 and PalmOS 4.x is probably the better choice still due to emulation requirements and more apps existing for 4.x.

This lets me run Zotero on the folding phone in a way thats actually useful on Android

github.com/kimmknight/r...

Protip: the RDP file generated by the linked app can be opened directly. Use 'Mouse Mode' instead of 'Touch Mode' too.

🎉 Now maybe i can work through my backlog of research papers

well thats strange. if i a pixel 9 pro fold running @grapheneos.org into a uPerfect lapdock or nexdock with the desktop options enabled, works beautifully in desktop mode

plug in my anker 543 usb-c dock (model A8365) and the launcher icon doesnt show but everything else looks proper

The Syncthing mess on Android is frustrating. I really wish catfriend1 would have [been able?] to announce the shift so the community knew prior to the repo transfer.

🤞 the dust settles sooner than later

Does anyone know why syncthing-fork is no longer available on Github?
Just FYI: you can set apps to “track only” in Obtainium. Alternatively, you can delete the app entry, and Obtainium will ask you whether you want to remove the entire app from the system or just from ...

im annoyed

i see some esp32 e-ink kit and all i can think is: palm os can run on that and would be a gorgeous pda

note: i have a full palm pda env setup and in use as my primary pocket notebook. it has staying power

thats annoying. the digitizer on this phone screen is super sensitive so the adonit dash se registers far away from the tip.

its just too distant from the tip to be useful

lets see if the mini 4 does better given its the disc tip design

i wonder if the 'lapdock' market will come back alive if / when android desktop mode becomes A Thing

i reaaaaaaly want to find a better lapdock than the one i have presently. its good but ive got some nits to pick that annoy me greatly

woah ; the latest Graphene OS release has some big improvements to the desktop mode (under developer settings, in beta)

changes that may allow me to use it as a proper DEX alternative

I'm trying to avoid all things Play Store on Android but I'm having trouble finding the following games. If you know of a place I can get these (preferably open source) please reply with a link. I'd be very grateful

im glad it looks like 'Syncthing-Fork' will continue but the hand off to a new maintainer is not a great one.

🤞 hopefully the messy hand off will sort itself quickly

i think im starting to prefer ntfy and unified push on android. its proving way more flexible and tunable than whatever google offers
November 18, 2025 at 5:46 PM
of course the one disk in the 4x usb disk adapter that's acting up is just fine in a different usb disk adapter. seems the system instability is the original usb disk thingy that holds four disks

thats both a relief and annoying

Yesterday (2025-11-11), the most recent major quarterly release of Android (Android 16 QPR1) was pushed to the Android Open Source Project after being delayed since 2025-09-03. We've completed our initial port of all our changes to it and are building an experimental release now.

this 'sanitization bucket' project is kicking my ass

🤞 ill figure it out so i can publish a mini how-to on how to turn a 5 gallon bucket into a linin sanitization 'machine'

Years ago when I was on SNAP (we called it Link) I would tutor my hairdresser's son in exchange for getting my hair done. I got my teeth cleaned at a student clinic for $10 IIRC and my nails done by a friend in the cosmetology program who always needed people to practice on. Community 101
It annoys me when people say “they’re on SNAP but their hair and nails are done and they’ve got tattoos”. It’s extremely normal to do your own hair and buy press on nails, and tattoos literally last forever. What do tattoos someone got 10 years ago have to do with them needing to eat now

protein powder is definitely helpful for upping the body of this hot cocoa

even 1tsp is helping

im definitely on the right path, now its a matter of figuring out the least protein needed to balance the mix

im tempted to try powdered milk too just to see how it can be adapted

on a lark i looked into hot chocolate mixes thinking 'there has to be a way to get full body and non-dairy'. after some reading i *think* i have the necessary powders on-hand to make a full bodied, vegan hot chocolate?

🤞

The below link has some really useful 'stuff' that can be used to build a Graphene OS env that's focused on privacy and security.

The most useful bit is an Obtainium config with >200 apps.

*and* it's been updated over time to ensure things Just Work

oooo

on graphene os open camera shoots in raw+jpeg, lets me choose which lens to use, has a ton of features i use heavily on a mirrorless cam and can be shown above the lockscreen

i adore the simplicity of the stock camera but i do end up needing more

the SeedVault backup system built into Graphene OS works 'reasonably'. Don't rely on it to 'just work' and definitely expect some things to restore very wrong (permissions and external storage access in particular).

However!

DO use it. it'll save you a lot of pain later if you have run a restore
