Creation is so lovely…

Slender tree-top branches,
entirely embraced by ice;
while brilliant winter sunlight,
creates glistening accents;

Seen years ago, in another place and time, during a winter with several ice storms. For some unknown reason, the morning sky was especially vibrant-blue, after an overnight ice event.

Wild, yellow Daisy flowers in summer, growing right near an old, weathered wooden post. The wood is likely Mesquite, a kind of desert tree that grows readily. Background is desert sand & large rocks. The lower, center Daisy has a tiny pollinator visitor.

I really enjoy how the softened desert light,
brings out colors & details on these two hummers –
especially highlighting their wonderful wings.

Please take a few moments, to appreciate details of the ambient light on these tiny wonders! Their wings move ~ 80 times per second, a marvel… Two hummingbirds, late summer a few years ago, during the early part of autumn migration. They’re both in flight, with very different mid-air stances, amidst a light-blue/pearl-grey sky. I think they are Rufous Hummingbirds: either adult female, and/or immature female or male. (The similar Allen’s Hummingbirds are seldom seen here-abouts.)

If winter desert rains are plentiful (it’s rare),
then desert spring plants may bloom abundantly,
lasting a long time…

Looks like summer, but taken Jan. 30, 2026… An essence of hope – a bright yellow Gazania flower, holding 2 butterfly visitors: a small tan one on left, & a vibrant Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly on right. This latter one, looks newly emerged from its cocoon, the colors are so pristine – black body, with bold orange accents, touches of white, & lovely blue iridescence on wings… The vibrant colors of the flower & butterfly are quite natural, as seen in a small desert garden... This hummer had just taken flight from his perch, & with incredible precision begins to weave among the branches. He is flying a little bowed-down, toward the left, his wings in a split-second downward beat. The lovely hummer’s face is vibrant pink, the body a bright iridescent green. Background is a soft mosaic of green & tan Mesquite leaves, with small patches of blue sky. Taken several years ago.

A unique, very #cold scene,
on iced-over branch of wild rose bush –
a bright star-light, twinkling in stunning white,
sends out golden rays, with hints of purple;
caused by fresh winter sunshine.

The actual star-light, was less than ¼ inch across.

Over the years, have noticed that soon after an ice storm, or certain rain storms where the rain stays on vegetation a while – if fresh sunlight appears, there may be natural twinkle-lights amidst creation. Especially lovely to see! They remind me of twinkle-lights that may adorn Christmas trees. Have also seen them in solid colors of red, or blue, or green, or gold, or white. Or any combination of these… Taken years ago.
