The current ACIP is not a credible committee. It pains me to say this, but do NOT listen to them for guidance on vaccines. I am an infectious disease doc and will be roundly ignoring their misinformed and anti-scientific guidelines.
Yesterday's spectacle was an insult to vaccinology and science.

It is absolutely wild that the person in charge of health in America has be roundly condemned and labeled as dangerous by:
- Former CDC directors
- Former Surgeons General
- Multiple medical professional societies
- Health professionals across multiple platforms
And still holds his position.

Remember when COVID vaccines were first available? Remember how they saved lives and helped us move toward normalcy? Remember how relieved and grateful we were? Remember how amazing our healthcare workers were? Remember how science rescued us?

They recovered over 180 bullet shells at the CDC. Debris from shattered glass is still being cleaned up. I am completely stunned at how quickly the news cycle has moved on. This was an act of terrorism targeting public health experts, and the response seems to be a collective shrug.

This is what happens when public health and science is villainized. It places a target on the backs of people just trying to help.
“The shooter was either sick or believed he was sick, and blamed his illness on COVID vaccine — which is why he was targeting the CDC.”

I personally know 5 early career and trainee level academic scientists who have changed jobs/ career paths in the last month. They did not see a sustainable future with ongoing cuts and attacks.
The scale of decimation of the pipeline that the scientific workforce in U.S. faces is staggering.

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.
