I care too fast and too much about people who definitely don’t care about me or don’t understand just how much I worry about them when they get sick. It’s difficult navigating that fine line between checking in with them and giving them space, and it hurts when others get updates but not me.

This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

We cannot dare to be silent or complacent in the face of this frontal assault on free speech.

We, the People, deserve better.

What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power.

This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.

I stopped reaching out to people first because I was constantly the one doing it. As of right now, the only texts i’ve gotten from not my family are from my boss (who is awesome & cares). But other than that, it’s an incredibly lonely existence, which is difficult combined with a jam-packed new job.

I watched @colbertlateshow.bsky.social tonight and @kamalaharris.com absolutely rocked it. THAT is what a leader looks like. Take notes, Donald.
Ps. So totally missed hearing that laugh and seeing her smile. But also glad she got much deserved rest. #mamala

Surprised one of my teacher friends tonight as her artwork was part of a gallery and her reaction was, “You did not drive all the way out from *insert town 45 minutes away here* just to see this!?!?”
Me: Yup ☺️
Her: No way!
Me: Yes way!
Her: 😲🥹💕

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

Protested for the first time in person yesterday as I had already been scheduled to help run a booth at pride in a major city. Was scared to go because of what I had seen in LA with 🧊, but told myself I needed to do it for my middle school self who didn’t understand why no one stood up to Hitler.

Midnight thoughts: every horror story I read reminds me of the wonderful teen librarian I had as a mentor and friend, because she recommended so many of my favorites. We spent hours holed up in the library reading and watching horror movies in the days before social media and tech really took over.

And when the scientific community attempted to dismiss her findings because she was an "untrained woman," she stood her ground.
