Come, Morning Star,
heralding the new dawn
of your kingdom;
shine your guiding light
into the darkness
of our world and of our ways,
that we may be drawn
by the hope you set before us,
opening our hearts and lives
to the refining fire
of your love for all.

Isaiah prophesies that the deaf, blind, and poor will experience God's saving power but the powerful and arrogant will miss it. In the gospels too, Jesus is welcomed among the poor and it was they who experience his healing power.

In the last week of the liturgical year, the focus is eschatological. The poor widow, who put two small coins into the treasury (Lk 21:1-4), teaches us that not only at this time, but each day, we must give life everything we've got. It is the best way to live a life of faith.

Lord Jesus, inspire us
to come to you day by day,
bringing that in us
which needs the healing,
the wholeness, the peace,
the shalom of your love.
As you renew and refresh us
in the new life of your kingdom,
give us the strength and courage
to show you to the world.

When change happens, we need not be terrified, deceived, or succumb to false predictions. Rather, it is by our perseverance that we will secure our lives.

When Jesus says "Make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth" (Lk 15:9), he is not saying that we become money loving people. Rather, that we are not attached to it; that our identity is not lost when we do not have it; that it does not determine our dignity, character, faith.

"Poor in Spirit,
Mourn with those who weep,
Meek,
Hunger and thirst for righteousness,
Merciful,
Clean of heart,
Peacemakers,
Persecuted for the sake of righteousness" (Mt 5:3-10).
There is blessedness is being the kind of person Jesus was. May we find ourselves blessed!

The meaning of life is to find your gift
The purpose of life is to give it away...
The Lord has given us His Holy Spirit to be our Helper, but He will not be of practical help to us until we yield ourselves to Him. In Romans 6:13, Paul urges believers to “yield yourselves unto God.”

In today's gospel, as much as the disciples wanted to call down fire from heaven to consume and consumer the Samaritan village (as if they could 😂) Jesus turned around and rebuked them (Lk 9:51-56). How often we think God is only our God! All belong to God and God belongs to all.

Jesus expanded his biological family saying, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it" (Lk 19 21). In our own families, there are good people and not so good folks. Am I a good member of Jesus' family? It depends on hearing and acting on his word.
