.@ciananbrennan has been following every twist and turn in this sorry saga… millions wasted, patients and their families put through terrible stress, and a lucrative property purchased from a key HSE manager’s family member 🤔

To understand why the HSE is in such a financial mess, look no further than Cork's Glenwood House
Millions of euro were spent, a great deal of it wasted, on Glenwood and other mental health facilities in Cork

"It’s hard to imagine that the Irish Embassy in London could have put together a more insulting show, at least not without somehow reanimating David Lloyd George."

This week's column is about Ryan Tubridy, Eoghan Murphy, Robert Troy, Michael Lowry and Eoin Hayes.
Surrealing in the Years: It was a good week for the kind of people who have a lot of good weeks
If ever a week embodied the phrase ‘well for some’.

Six months ago I handed back my body armour after 30+ years covering conflict for the BBC. How have our ways of surviving on the battlefield evolve over those decades? Here’s a bumper 🧵of hard won personal experience

From our latest issue, Francesca Bratton's exquisite profile of Fr Pat Buckley, the most fascinating priest/ex-priest/socialist/gay rights campaigner in Ireland.

Featuring the last interview he gave before his death, it's online for all to read right now.

One of the greats!
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

I try to explain it here: www.gibiris.org/eo-blog/post...

(I keep meaning to change the title, as I don't want people to think I'm telling them to do something. It's more a strategy for achieving a specific goal, if that's your goal)
Even the really horrible candidates should get a preference from you, just... not a high one.

Mine hasn’t arrived yet either! But fear not; you don’t NEED it to vote. You can still just show up at your polling station with photo ID and proof of address and you should be accommodated.

If you don’t know where your polling station is: it’ll be listed on your records on checktheregister.ie.
When are poling cards supposed to arrive? I switched my address 2 days before the deadline and was worried I’d left it too late as I haven’t received anything yet. But my family and co-workers haven’t received theirs yet either so I’m hopeful it’s all ok but I thought I’d have received it by now.
