C of E priest. Precentor at Southwark Cathedral. Delighted parent & granny. Shy extrovert. Cats, dogs, books, music. Infinitely distractible...
Delightfully the @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social bell ringing team composed a special "Rutshire Surprise" ring for Dame Jilly. Such a great thought!

Rather a special day @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social as we celebrated the life & work of Dame Jilly Cooper in a cathedral packed with her friends & in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen
Glorious music, splendid readings & the thrill of hearing words I had written prayed by some remarkable people

Vergers had been exiting the cupboards today...and look what loveliness they unearthed for a visiting school to admire!
The one on the left dates from our consecration as a cathedral in 1905. Just gorgeous!

Always a privilege to do a shift with the #ROBES Winter Night Shelter. I love the ethos of our @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social teamOur homeless guests these are mates you have invited round for supper.
Not a whiff of soup kitchen but warmth, friendship, humanity

Further evidence that Aslan is on the move...

Spring is doing its best in the Tibetan Peace Garden at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park & we were glad to applaud it

So good to be at Wiltons Music Hall tonight for James Joyce "The Dead" with the truly excellent @thefourthchoir.bsky.social
Unhappy undergrad Joyce experiences almost kept me home but it was honestly one of the loveliest performances I've experienced
2 more nights so go if you can

Extraordinary evening of arboreal beauty @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social yesterday, celebrating the Max Richter score of Hamnet. Puts a new perspective on Forest Church...
It was altogether entrancing. Look!

Lovely variety yesterday: joyful chaos & deep love at Eucharist w Baptism at St Hugh's, Bermondsey then beautiful music & readings for "Beyond the Stable" our Epiphany Carol Service @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social
Howells, Dove, Marenzio, Eccard, & Henry Vaughan too
Utter joy for this Precentor ❤️🎶

#WalkingWithWillow I. Kensington Gardens today. Bare trees & blue skies. Definite rumours of spring to come.

Sorrel not-a-lap-cat has been making it extremely challenging to "up and at em" this morning.
#CanonryCats on fine feline form, modelling the best approach to full January days

Today was a lot! Somewhat hairy journey to Richmond to preside & preach at lovely S Mary Mags, back to @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social to put in a shiny new Archdeacon, then extraordinary performance of Messaien "La Nativite..." by the excellent Simon Hogan. Emotionally exhausted now & glad of home

Suspect we may all need a sign that spring will come, so have these, from Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, yesterday morning.

Delighted to report that the grandsmols were so excited by the books they received that all present-unwrapping had to cease while they leapt in. It has been an awesome Christmas for book giving. My own total is now, I think, 13, all looking glorious.

Inordinately excited that my splendid son & his wife have adopted a *PINEMARTEN* for me at Wildwood
Everyone, meet Pantalaimon. Isn't he beautiful!

I hadn't thought of a rural failure of the sound system @southwarkcathedra as a likely complication this year. Silly of me ...
Full house for a happy Crib service, delivered via boom box & 2 handheld mics. Lots of work going in but none too hopeful wrt streaming our big services. So sorry friends
December 24, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Comic moment. Arrived in vestry just now to find a Christmas tree delivered for me from the wonderful Gated Garden in Borough Market .. except Jack collected mine last week & his iwn yesterday...
The story of the 3 trees suddenly became very real!
Luckily one of our vergers was still treeless ...

So nearly there.
Amazing Advent, with @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social packed for both our in-house carol services & an outstanding choir concert, the inevitable last minute printing crisis negotiated with help from our friends at the diocese & much laughter (hysteria?) along the way.
Last push now.

In a busy, and not always straightforward Advent, the beauty of the Quiet Christmas service @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social was exactly what I needed.
Lovely music from #MerbeckeChoir, space to mourn brokenness , acknowledge the darkness and turn towards the Light...
I'm so glad we can do this
December 16, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Yes it's my 3rd time round with this calendar, but my goodness I get so much joy from Angela Harding, who captures something about the depth of Christmas memories in each window. Have some random samples of the 1st week. Love it!
December 9, 2025 at 10:41 PM
A full house for #MerbeckeChoir Christmas @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social.who are on their usual excellent form. I am so thrilled that they now have a reliable following, richly deserved. Proud of them (& a bit embarrassed that we grossly underestimated the number of programmes needed!)
December 6, 2025 at 7:53 PM
The Sacristy "Advent calendar", showing all the extra services this month @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social
As I have said before, our vergers are fantastic!

Willow (sings)
"I feel pretty, oh so pretty..."
Christmas hairdo achieved & lots of compliments on the way home. Kennington is _full_ of chatty dog lovers who knows when a girl is looking pleased with herself!

Good Morning Elephant.
"For lo already on the (?hills?) the flags of day appear..."
Have I said before that I <3 Advent? Even the city skies join in.

Last night I had an adventure, heading off to preach at Deanery service in Kenley.I did get rather lost walking from the station (country lane, no lights, no signal) but had a lovely time on arrival
Also loved the on screen typo "Hail thee as our MATHLESS King".
Knew God was on my side there 😀
