Distilling the craft into 10-20-minute nuggets (sometimes even shorter), these bite-size stories can be a masterclass in storytelling economy, teaching us lessons in structure, character, and dialogue. Even the bad ones can be valuable in telling us what not to do. What’s more, short films can be a great way to demonstrate your vision, and it’s not uncommon for filmmakers to expand them into feature length projects (

Heading into my final MA module this week with heaps of excitement and a generous sprinkling of anxiety. Just going to stay focussed and enjoy the ride.

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.

If you’re planning on watching any Lynch, my advice is: don’t watch any analysis videos, don’t think about what stuff is “supposed” to mean, just get your own unique experience from it!!

I think people have become far too concerned with the “correct” interpretations of media. Just experience it!!!

Well, I’ve done it. Both assignments completed and submitted. It has been a crazy 12 weeks, but the teams at #Emmerdale and #CoronationStreet have been so helpful in my research. I couldn’t have done it without them 🙏🏻 Looking forward to much needed break!

Well done to anyone in the #writingcommunity who completed writing challenges in November 🙋🏻‍♀️ What’s the word count looking like?

2 weeks left of my current assignment. I didn't think I could do it, but I've somehow managed to cut my film treatment from 5,000 words to the 1,500 word limit. Now I get to work on the fun part: pitch deck.

One of my writing revelations this year is just how helpful outlining can be. I have been a proud pantser for years, but it turns out I work so much better with a plan. #writingcommunity

A brief introduction as I’m new around here. I’m an aspiring author and screenwriter from Whitby, a TV Subtitler by day, and I adore reading, cats, pineapple and new stationary 💁🏻‍♀️ PS I believe in ghosts.
