Watched Whoopee!. Jeez, the black face that goes on for a long time is not even the worst of the racism. Tough watch beyond that since it feels like playing to the crowd including waiting for laughs that aren't there since it's not on stage. Musical numbers and dancing are great.

Very few people with as much deep contextual knowledge of the conservative movement (and as skilled at connecting so many dots) as Nicole — can't wait for this one.
Breaking my social media hiatus to share some good news! I’ve just signed a deal with Basic Books for my next book, Impunity, which uncovers the right’s decades-long effort to destroy political accountability and protect their friends in power. I’m so excited for this one!

Watched Babe. Cute enough story that is probably a lot of people's exposure to temporary vegetarianism. Not sure I would recommend it to an adult, but it's great for #parenting. The dog is Hugo Weaving!

Watched Kick-Ass 2. Not sure how this could have captured the passion of the first one, but just continuing the plot with more characters wasn't it, particularly with gritty superheroes being played out.

HitGirl has the only interesting development, but it's pretty muddled.

Watched Star Wars 8. The prettiest of the Star Wars films. Might be in my top 3 despite the mild bumpy parts of not for the complete reversal by the next film which ruins the previous 2 after the fact. Shame they didn't let this one rise given its great characters.

Watched Rapture-Palooza. Not sure if I laughed during the entire thing. Felt like every actor just doing impressions of their most generic characters with dumb background humor that had no creativity. I like this genre, but this one had no heart.

Watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Fun popcorn action movie with some witty bits, it didn't stand up to the lovable characters that realistically survived amongst deeply dark folks that I expect from Ritchie's films. Good film and each main actor is good, but misses spark.

Shout out to the amazing apps like Downcast that I'm using years later after buying them and have never changed to require a subscription.

Watched Animal Crackers (1930). Maybe my favorite Marx Brothers film; I will never not think of the bridge scene when playing any card game. Zeppo's best film I think. Definitely wears a bit near the end, but has such highs that I forgive all.

Hooray for Captain Spaulding!

Watched Malice. What an interesting, twisty thriller. Full of names and phrases that Sorkin would use well later, but fun to see in this form. More of a "ride along" than a puzzle to solve, it has incredible moments like Baldwin's God Complex speech. Layering of plots is great too.

Watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fun to watch with my kid. Pacing feels more frenetic than previous ones, but I still like the parallel to the first, even if it is a bit heavy handed. It's not this one's fault that the sequels are painful. Boyega shines in energy.

Doing mildly well landing this heart! Probably still need to get a lot more reps, but 3 out of 4 this week have looked great!

Finally threw a nice heart! Still small issues, but overall turned out great, especially for a flat bottomed cup.

Managed to complete my second 5K in 20 years. Started #running for a Turkey Trot last year and have kept up casually. I must be middle aged since it actually feels kinda good when I'm done with it.

Watched Limitless. Pretty tough watch that requires suspending disbelief on a bunch of levels, but a fun ride if you let yourself get swept away in the masculine fantasy. Very much in the vein of "all I need is to be super smart and I can change the world".

Got a new cup for Christmas. Still need to widen the leaves, but these are wild how much they help compared to flat bottomed ones.

Watched The Ninth Gate. Had some intrigue and mystery, but was eminently guessable, and the ending was fairly unsatisfying given that a bunch of the "clues" had no payoff. Depp being alone in pretty places was 90% of the draw of the film, and luckily it was also 90% of the shots.

Watched Street Girl (1929). If you can get past the two insufferable leads and the tough sound quality, the side characters and comedy scenes are well worth it. Tough to see through the annoying male lead in particular though. I will always love Ned Sparks in any movie.

Watched Madame Web. In the running for worst movie I've seen, which is a bland take. Script was bad, acting was unemotive and unemptional. Nothing interesting really was explored, and I don't remember any character's name other than the lead.
