One refers to exposure to the elements, or the state of being exposed to the elements. The other term refers to human bones, especially the skull, that have been bleached by exposure to the elements. The “Tonbo” signifies the dragonfly, a metaphor for the Japanese summer and fall seasons.

Title : White catfish on tusks. Materials: deer antler, amber, brass Size of work: 2.0 x 2.4 x 7.7 cm Netsuke 2025 Description of the work This time I chose catfish as my theme. Many of Japanese may know that catfish have been associated with earthquakes in Japan since ancient times. It has also been a universal subject for netsuke from antiquity to the present day. In this work, I aimed to create a catfish that looks relaxed and relaxed by utilizing the length of its tusk-shaped base, instead of the composition in which the body curls up toward the caudal fin, which is often seen in the netsuke works of our predecessors. Also, try to add a point to the whiskers to try to include some kind of modern decorative element. I know it is difficult to convey the full picture as well in the photo, but I hope you will be able to see it in person. Reposted as it has been reworked. Thank you.(DeepL)

I carved a small dragon netsuke. Details are in ALT.
Title : A dragon sprucing up. material: deer antler Size: 2.2cm x 2.8cm x 3.4cm It had been a while since I wanted a fantasy-oriented piece, so I carved out a slender, young-looking dragon from a piece of deer antler. I chose a gesture of rounding the body and cleaning the wings, which I thought would also give it the roundness necessary for use as a netsuke. The lower part of the work is inspired by ito-in netsuke and dai-in type pieces, and the base, which retains the epidermis of the deer antler, gives the piece a touch of antique netsuke context.(DeepL)

Title "crawling raindragon" (reads: Amaryo.) Material : deer antler, artificial marble Size: 2.5 x 1.9 x 5.0 cm It was about time for the rainy season to begin in Japan, and it occurred to me that I had never carved a motif of the rainy season, so I decided to create this work as a sequel to a netsuke in the form of a seal stand. The motif of "raindragon" itself is drawn on a flat surface, like an ink painting or a family crest, so I was conscious of creating a semi-three-dimensional form. The dreary wind tends to make us feel depressed, but when I think that the raindragon may be bringing rain as a blessing, I feel the air to be full of flavor. (DeepL)
