Most of the population of North America is indigenous. Such an important point given one of the major consequences of the American Revolution and the broader trajectory of the new nation throughout the nineteenth century. #KenBurns #HATM

Not a very productive day, but trying show myself some grace. Today is the 4th anniversary of my Dad's passing. I don't think there will ever be a time where Auguat 19th isn't horrible.

I'm teaching full time beginning in September and have a book due in November, but has that stopped me from coming up with ideas for two articles, a presentation, and new course? No. Am I going to be nice to myself and not try to do all of those things within the next six months? Also, no.

Sometimes while I write, I like to have movies on in the background. This evening's movie- 3:10 to Yuma, the remake with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

Oh if I don't disappear into the abyss that is writing my book this evening, I will join in! #genchat
And there we have it! Thanks for sharing all your "things" tonight! Our next #genchat will be August 8, which will be about Records in the Confederate States. I thought that might be a good challenge for us!

Dear bookshelf manufacturers: I don't need to know how many pounds per shelf. I need to know how many 500 page books per shelf. Don't make me do math please.

One of the hardest parts of researching in the era (1870s) that I do is reading the disgusting remarks made about Indigenous people in newspapers and federal reports. Today I'm reading about the Nez Perce and capture of Chief Joseph and it's tough to read these reports.

Lots on today's to do list...grading, reading, and sorting through about a dozen old federal reports.

Late night thoughts...why does standing up for yourself to those you love the most have to suck so much?

We got in about 1am from our trip out to Cripple Creek, CO. We stayed in a cute cabin, explored the town and some historic sites, hiked, and did a lot of fishing. With doggo in tow.

I don't turn 40 for another week by my husband and son wanted to give my birthday present early! I'm in love! It even has the wheel in the right place for a "mountain boat."

Some days writing is so hard. Other days it's not. In the past half an hour, I've written more than I did all day yesterday.

Spending my 4th watching movies where Nazis get punched, drinking some wine, and doing some writing. Hubs has his smoker going and dinner under control!
