Toronto friends - any recommendations on somewhere that might be playing the Gotham FC semi-final game on Sunday?

I work with a lot of Colombians. It's an education in swearing in Spanish. Today I learned: "Qué hijos de puta en serio."

It's never good when Elise Stefanik is trending.

"The bastards have never been bombed like they’re going to be bombed this time." No, not Trump on Venezuela. Nixon on bombing the North Vietnamese. No parallels to see here, move along.

Weird thought but I know people think the Scandanavians make the best crime drama but honestly I think it's the French. To be fair, the English make A great crime show, it's just the same show 243 times over.

This is the most amazing and wonderful thing.

TIL NY bottle shops can't sell non-alcoholic beverages, not even mixers. Lived here nearly 15 years and just hadn't noticed.

The first ~10 mins of every 1:1 with one of my Colombian colleagues is usually chisme. I once would have seen this as unproductive but now I see how much it builds connections between team members. Also it lets them get mocking Jaimito out of their systems prior to work discussions.

Bet the people of Georgia are very surprised to discover how many right wing idiots in the UK support their sovereignty. If you can't even use the right flag for your country then ...

Every time I think that Democrats can't get any dumber... Going further right will not work. Those Republicans will not vote for you. Never. Go out and actually run a grass roots campaign that draws in voters. Mamdani (and the first Obama campaign and Stacey Abrams) all provided models. FFS.

I've got a degree from the University of Melbourne. I'm pretty proud of finishing my degree but I am not like ra-ra-ra about the institution. But if my university had done what Columbia has done? I'd be disavowing my degree. A shameful capitulation that devalues every degree they've ever conferred.

I wonder if I can make my own loomi.... If there's anywhere in the world I can find black limes it's NYC.

England were like "You know that match against Sweden was a nail biter but I don't think we truly tested the fans. Hold my beer." lol #euros

Re-watching Jeremiah over the last few weeks and reflecting on Luke Perry being gone and today the news of Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death. Damn shame. Great actors.

Bad day to have a craving for jaffas.

England loses to France. I am like "this is not good" but rebound and beat Netherlands (solid team) and Wales (if you can't beat Wales :( - no offence I love the Welsh but Welsh football is embryonic) and now you're down 2-0 in the second half to Sweden? I don't see them making it further.

I just added KPop: Demon Hunters to my Netflix queue. I blame @cassidoo.co. lol.

I've been thinking about universal translators (a la Star Trek, Hitchhikers babel fish) and wondering what the impact on language learning would be. Would anyone learn another language? Would people move toward a single language or go the other direction? #insomnia

If I have to explain the paradox of tolerance to one more person I am going to be considerably less tolerant than normal.

Just to be clear, I voted for Mamdani before I knew he was an Arsenal fan.

When I started writing books it was because docs on many projects were terrible. I don't mean poorly documented, although some were, they often aimed at a more technical audience. Making the projects unapproachable for some. Things are better but my god do I still spend too much time code diving.

I went back to the bad place* to read a link. It was bad and I regret it.

* Twitter - I am clarifying because almost all the places are the bad place now.

When you give people the idea they can do what they like to others, then they'll do what they like to others. And you're increasingly painted into a corner because you conceded over and over.
