Someone asked my husband after his sermon on justice if it will ever come to fruition and implying why do it.

He responded: We still evangelize even though not everyone will be saved. We seek justice even if not everyone receives it.

Her mind was blown. Eyes are opening.

"Block points out that these ten do not focus on a person's own rights but the rights of one's neighbor. The job of every Israelite is to protect other people's freedoms. And it's done by keeping the Ten Words."

"Anxious scarcity evokes no gratitude, but only exploitation and violence. The doxological conviction of Israel is that anxious anti-neighborly action (as in the case of pharaoh) generates scarcity. Conversely, generous action evokes generosity in the fruitfulness of creation."

News anchors talking about the Conclave and Pope Leo XIV seem like 7th graders learning new vocab words and trying to use the words in sentences...

"the CONCLAVE..."
"INSTALLATION of the new Pope..."

Visited the Kansas Aviation Museum yesterday with my parents (who are visiting from Oregon) and my husband. Outside are a dozen planes of various sizes, some used to transport cargo others people.

There was one B-52 bomber - which is GIANT. It was used in the 70s to bomb Vietnam...

Was on a walk around the apartment complex yesterday evening. Passed a man entering his apartment with palms in his arms.

Instead of saying a neighborly "hello," I said "Nice palms."

He chuckled and said, "Thanks, there a little wilted."

It felt like we were drawing fish in the sand.

I was not prepared for the surge of emotions watching the Handmaid's Tale when they tell each other their names. Names, speaking names, being named, naming names is such an act of resistance.

Last summer I went shell hunting. Today I finally found a home for some of the shells. All the shells - clam, oyster, sand dollars, hermit crab - are from the Oregon and Washington coasts.

Now Marcell the Shell is home.

I was today year's old when I realized the stocks shown on the local news are (often) LOCAL companies.

How did I realize this?

I am watching KAKE News in Wichita show Evergy & Spirit Aerosystems.

But I remember KATU in Portland (home) shows Columbia, Nike, Starbucks.

Mind blown!

"So spear of the Great Waters (Pilate), to satisfy the crowd, released the man of violence, Son of His Father (Barabbas), to them. He then turned over the man of peace, Creator Sets Free (Jesus)...to be...nailed to a tree-pole." Mark 15:15 First Nations Version

"In his tradition, the Bible is cited as an authority in order to keep people in line. In my tradition, the Bible is cited as an authority to affirm our dignity in the eyes and design of an Almighty God."

Every Christmas movie begins with someone working on a "big" presentation. Perhaps if we don't have big presentations at the end of the year we wouldn't have to have these Christmas movie tropes.

During the children's moment at church today, I talked to the kids (all 6 and under) about Thanksgiving. In explaining what we do at Thanksgiving, I said we "Give _____" and they couldn't figure out "thanks". Eventually the adults helped and we talked about what we are thankful for.

A few years ago I wrote about the Church New Year and what it means for us (even those of us who are not liturgical).

Happy (Church) New Year
The start of the Church Year. Many people use the Gregorian New Year to check up on their physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional lives and make resolutions to improve those areas. Why not do it…

Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
Wesleyan Theologian: The half full cup represents the journey towards entire sanctification. The half empty cup represents the need to confess our sins to one another.
Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
Psychologist: It seems important for you to know how full the cup is. Tell me more about that.
Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
Cosmologist: The cup is dusty or full of gravitational waves
