Well everyone, here it is: the final expected APT and HRPT transmissions of NOAA 18 over the United States. HIRS and AVHRR IR Channels were off, but channel 3a was turned on, which is not typical for NOAA POES sats.

So long, and farewell!

2025-06-02 0326 UTC - Arctic Weather Satellite composites. I'm glad to see this sat is finally transmitting data again! Decoded nicely with #SatDump, after a minor patch to handle bad data caused by interference

Hey @noaa.gov, I hope you now see that the current plan of cloud-based distribution for GeoXO data is completely untenable if contracts can be cancelled on a whim. Never mind the other issues with the cloud.

Your only real solution is a next-gen HRIT on next-gen GEOs.

NOAA contracts are being reviewed one by one. It's throwing the agency into chaos
NOAA relies on hundreds of contracts to keep the agency running. The new commerce secretary is reviewing many of them individually, causing disruptions to many normal operations within the agency.

It appears today's GOES-19 test transmission was a success! Both goestools and SatDump can decode it, and there is nothing unexpected in the data stream. We're good to go for the beginning of April!

As of January 28, 2025, GOES 19 has reached Provisional Validation maturity and is available from NOAA CLASS and AWS. Here is the image processed by SatDump from today, February 7, 2025 1700 UTC.

METEOR-M2 3 221 and METEOR-M2 4 thermal from today. Both from LRPT, processed with SatDump. If a part of North America isn't covered in snow, it's covered in clouds!

Both operational METEOR satellites are currently transmitting analog telemetry on LRPT, enabling calibration on the IR channel

2024-12-21 1500 - 2024-12-23 1500 UTC - GK-2A AMI Color composite animation.

Judging from the L1b data, those colors you see around "Satellite Midnight" appears to be from the sensor overloading?

Thanks to my sister for the new TV for Christmas! Even bigger kudos for picking one with a SoC powerful enough to run some… more useful programs on-board ;)

Here's the GOES-R ABI Color composite from December 17-23, 2024. All composites for the time range were produced automatically by SatDump with the data on NOAA's AWS buckets, along with some help from PowerShell for bulk downloading, and ffmpeg for animation.

...and now, Himawari-9 can be pulled from AWS too 😀

Himawari has its own data format, known as HSD. In many ways it's a nice format, but you need to download a lot of files since each channel is divided into 10 segments. There's 16 channels, so that's 160 files just for one time slot!

Next up in #SatDump, we have support for downloading and processing GK-2A AMI data from NOAA's AWS bucket!

Both the full disk and local area (Korean Peninsula Mesoscale) files can be processed.

Thanks to some work with @aang23.satdump.org, initial support for loading GOES-R ABI products from the internet (AWS) is now supported in #SatDump!

We've added a a few new composites to take advantage of all of ABI's channels. Hopefully one day we can see some of these channels on HRIT!

To keep things moving along, and to fix bugs and add features for many people, we've just pushed SatDump 1.2.2!
