Irreverent, humorous, often startlingly honest, with an undercurrent of existential bewilderment and searching.

Rebecca West's The Modern Rake's Progress. Illustrated with 12 double page colour illustrations by David Low. Low was best known for his war time cartoons, and he was the originator of Colonel Blimp. Larger format (285 by 220mm (11¼ by 8¾ inches)) gives the illustrations the space they deserve.

Bluesky Joyceans! Flanneurs! Of 'At Swim-Two-Birds' Joyce reportedly remarked "That’s a real writer, with a true comic spirit. A really funny book." Can anyone source this comment? Was it in a letter, or something he said to (possibly) a French critic? Thanks for any help.
