@kqedforum.bsky.social Stella here—arts admin, lifelong SFer. Talking big public art means talking space. Who has the room to make monumental work? Too often, it’s white men with access to massive studios. Let’s create spaces where more artists can build big and shift what public art looks like.

We can’t afford libraries or dementia research or forest rangers, but we can spend $45B in 2yrs to enrich private prison companies - “The companies + their investors had been anticipating a huge windfall when Mr. Trump took over. But what is on offer now would dwarf that.” (reposting to fix #’s!)
Trump Administration Aims to Spend $45 Billion to Expand Immigrant Detention (Gift Article)
A request for proposals for new detention facilities and other services would allow the government to expedite the contracting process and rapidly expand detention.

What a shame. Teamsters deserve better than this.
Teamsters President Sean O'Brien downplays Trump's reckless firings of federal workers: "We don't want to see anybody losing their jobs, but he thinks he's within his right."

Hoping to make it to @repmarkdesaulnier.bsky.social townhall on Thursday at Saint Mary’s in Moraga.
Last time I saw Mark, when Roe fell under Biden, he told me the Republicans were “the dog that caught the car” and would be defeated next election.
How did he get it so wrong?
I made a sign.

SIIIIIIIIIIICK! The Skate park/Mahjong/Farmers Market/Library combo on Sundays out at Civic Center is literally the best.
The UN Skateboard Plaza near San Francisco's Civic Center will be transformed and expanded. The skatepark will host a kickoff event, co-sponsored by Tony Hawk’s nonprofit, when the upgrades are complete in mid-February.
San Francisco’s UN Skate Plaza to Expand | KQED
Over 2,100 square feet will be added to the site, with an emphasis on beginning skaters.

This reminds me of the work I did on @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social Infinite City. Even in 2010 digital maps were heavily slanted towards capitalism. What happens when google changes maps? What happens when Apple changes time? What happens when our common language is dictated by broligarchs and racists?

AOC: I don’t care what Elon Musk is doing behind the presidential seal, but in this country we hate Nazis. Kind of like a foundational defining thing. Two of the foundational things about American history is that we beat the confederates and we beat the Nazis.
