Late to the party but I am positively loving Avowed. Really interesting characters, quest design, and world building without a ton of the usual open world bloat. I think the combat is fast-paced and fun and I’m just having a blast.

I have been making real progress on all of my backlogs from books to movies to video games. It has really helped me to do less doomscrolling and kept me from disappearing back into comfort shows and turning off my brain which, while we all need that sometimes, was becoming problematic for me.

I’ve mostly kept my political notes to Facebook where most of my friends and family see them, but I feel the need to mention here how gobsmackingly stupid this Treasury-DHS deal to share migrant taxpayer information is for revenue AND crime. It will actively disincentivize people from paying.

My resolution, if it can be called such, for this year was to catch up on all the media I’ve been saving to various lists while I doom-scroll social media or rewatch comfort shows. A little over three months in and I’m not moving as quickly through the books as I’d like, but I am making a big dent.

The worst thing about our current economic state, to me, is how utterly unnecessary it is for us to suffer. We were the envy of the world two and a half months ago. Just cruel, reckless, and ultimately self-destructive behavior.

I want to see less social media circle jerking from elected Democrats and more action. Get arrested. Get thrown out of his speeches. Make some god damn noise in the world. More of that will show us you’re on our side and the entire party should be doing it.

Finished Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s excellent Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present. It’s a fairly quick read. A meticulously researched look at authoritarian rulers from all over the world for the last century that puts the typical falsehoods and violence into perspective for a modern American audience.
