A big question now is: why isn't FEMA in western Alaska?

Because they have not been deployed.

Gov. Dunleavy has requested a federal disaster declaration, and Alaska is waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, it's all local, tribal and state led relief efforts.

Public media costs every tax payer $1.60. Defunding it will have disastrous effects for news, information and public safety, especially in rural communities.
As the Trump administration works to end nearly all federal support for public broadcasting, the loss of that money for the state’s public radio and TV stations could jeopardize remote Alaskans’ access to news, and public safety.
Trump wants to cut funds to public media. Here’s what that could mean for 27 radio and 4 TV stations in Alaska.
A memo set to appear before Congress on Monday will ask lawmakers to rescind $1.1 billion in funds that support public media nationwide and heavily subsidize public radio stations and television stati...
