I took some time off to replay some of the DRPGs that inspired Nian-Xi, one of which being Etrian Odyssey II (HD).
And frankly, I didn't remember the dungeon design being so good. Everything just clicks for me in the right way, from the FOEs being genuinely challenging to dodge--
