For nearly 160 years, the Almshouse at the Montgomery County Poor Farm was the last resort for poor people who were unable to take care of themselves due to physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. Read its history in two parts. juliannemangin.com/2025/04/19/h...

Photos from our Southern Arizona trip. Birding and nature walks around Sierra Vista. Vintage cars and trucks in Lowell, and contemporary art in Bisbee. In Douglas, we visited the Last Supper Museum and Art Car World, both of which were delightful. www.flickr.com/photos/tacky...

I'm transcribing for the Library of Congress. Worked on a page by Voltaire from his essay "La Tolérance peut seule rendre la société supportable." Tolerance alone can make society bearable. At the bottom of the page, "Saved from the ruins of the library burned in the United States Capitol."

Who else is using Thriftbooks to buy books instead of you-know-where? I find the prices are somewhat lower, and when you add shipping, about the same as you-know-where. The books don't take that much longer to arrive, either. I think it might be a good alternative.
