Love this video🎶🎶
Dvořák conjures theme after theme of ravishing beauty in the finale of his beloved Cello Concerto in B minor, here performed with an expressive panache characteristic of Steven Isserlis, alongside the Berliner Philharmoniker and Alan Gilbert 🎻

Leeds "antiquarian" Ralph Thoresby, died otd in 1725.
Known for his diaries and "Ducatus Leodiensis.
Without him, we wouldn't have the history of Leeds the way we know it!

Wonder how Kirkgate Market would look if it didn't have the fire in 1975? Would it still have had the entertainment space with the eating area?

My second home!
A wonderful tour around the Leeds Central Library as part of the @leedscivictrust.bsky.social Heritage Open Days. Lovely to see some of the areas that the public are not normally allowed access to and to also learn so much history about this beautiful building

Can anyone identify this tree in our front garden that in recent years started growing green spikey fruits which the squirrels love to eat? Thank you🌲

Just reading about Queen Mary I. I'm assuming that she had a phantom pregnancy or could it have been something more sinister?
Also, did Prince Philip love her or was he using her to get his hands on England?

Because of her, I can vote in elections. Whichever day it is, happy birthday Emmeline🎂
Emmeline Pankhurst, born 14 or 15 July 1858 (her birth certificate says 15, but she claimed her mother said she was actually born on the 14th).
Made in Manchester: Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928), born in Moss Side, founded the suffragettes, yet ended as a Conservative. Historians argue about whether her militancy helped or hurt the women's suffrage movement. She certainly raised its profile. 1/8

Happy birthday Josiah🎂
Josiah Wedgwood, English potter and founder of the Wedgwood company, was born #OnThisDay 1730.

Wedgwood was a prominent abolitionist and created the famous ‘Am I Not a Man And a Brother?’ anti-slavery medallion.

Happy birthday NHS🎂
Health minister Aneurin Bevan marked the creation of the National Health Service #OTD 1948 by attending a ceremony at Park Hospital, Davyhulme (later renamed Trafford General), where he symbolically received the keys. I had my tonsils out there in 1960.

Went on a lovely tour travelling on this beauty calling at Kirkstall Abbey and Middleton Railway. Very nostalgic for me because my Dad was a bus conductor in the '60s & '70s. Thank you to @LeedsCivicTrust who organised this trip.

What magic to be able to enjoy a performance like this almost 35 years later: Steven Isserlis is inside the piece from the very first note. Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor, performed here with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and conducted by David Shallon, in 1991 ✨
