A leading Catholic newspaper has made it clear that the VP has chosen to serve Trump, rather than follow the teachings of Jesus.

Vice President JD Vance’s comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith.

His Catholicism seems to be little more than a political prop, a tool only for his career ambitions and desire for power.

No, Pope Leo is not “based.” But that hasn’t stopped conservative culture warriors from trying to mold the Pope in their own image - one that fits in neatly and conveniently with their theological, liturgical, and political sensibilities.

Feels like a good time to re-share this column I wrote about how @christopherjhale.bsky.social and other partisan progressives use hyperbolic and often embellished language to frame Pope Leo as a convenient tool for their political agenda.
Letters (not) from Leo: Progressive efforts to claim Pope Leo misunderstand his mission
As political tensions reach their boiling point in the United States, progressives have anointed Pope Leo XIV as their foil to President Donald Trump. The problem? Leo doesn't see himself that way.

Some noted a Kirk appearance in 2023 in which he said that gun deaths were "unfortunately" worth it for the right to bear arms.

“I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”
