I'm so glad the funds will be used to make D.C. safe and beautiful! That's a much better use than funding creative projects that will enlighten people, give them a glimpse into different worlds, offer them new ideas, and sustain them in difficult times. **eye roll**

For all those who think the idea that humans can affect the climate is new, this headline is from an article in The Miami Evening Record, October 27, 1906. “Danger to climate.” 1906, people!!!!

Who says being a writer isn’t glamorous? Today I’m researching sewage systems of 1910s Miami/Miami Beach. Bet you’re jealous!

So many people claim to be writers. But are they? I have thoughts on this.

Are you a writer?
Depends on what you're doing with that piece of paper

Talking with Kara Infante of Bookish Flights about my favorite books about the 1920s--as well as about research, family, and what I don't like in a novel--was great fun and I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did!

Reason #325 why I need to remember why to not ask my husband for writing help.

Me: How did [my character] get shot.
Husband: Uh, with a gun?

So helpful.

It's nice when the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services shares the same views as Brig. Gen. Jack Ripper. Inspires confidence.

Got a new character so looking up names in Social Security database for folks born in 1899. Surprised to see John was a name given to girls; the 462nd most popular name for girls, above Susanna, Natalie, Clementine. I've met women named James and Kevin, but never John. Any female Johns out there?

I’m sick at how many times I’ve heard the word “unprecedented” in the last 48 hours. I had forgotten how much I detest/fear that word.

Today’s Strands is “The time of our lives.” Stop reading if you haven’t done it yet.

Spoiler: the theme is the different generations. There’s one generation not included. Any guess as to which one?

So on brand. Luckily, I really don’t give a fuck. Just amused. Which I guess is also on brand.

When I was a kid, my dad kept all my (and my sister’s) baby teeth. Likewise I saved my children’s teeth. My question to you: WHY did I do this?? WTF am I supposed to do with these teeth? Is this just a weird thing my family did. What do others do with those teeth?
