Back in 2007–2008, we teamed up with engineers from Xela Teco, to design and build our own LED lights—at a fraction of the cost of buying them online. Our solar light fixture was made using recycled water bottles, aluminum, and a custom circuit board.

We’re still installing solar and water filters on homes in very remote parts of Guatemala through the end of the month. We will have a special video in February.

I work in the field of renewable energy for humanitarian development with The Appropriate Technology Collaborative. My focus is on designing innovative technologies that empower the world’s most vulnerable communities. We’ve developed many technologies our 20 years if service.
