What is the link between biological #aging and #frailty? In a lung transplant cohort, we found anemia and #telomere dysfunction were more linked to frailty than epigenetic age. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Frailty in lung transplant recipients is associated with anemia and telomere dysfunction but independent of epigenetic age
Frailty is a syndrome of vulnerability to stressors linked to worse outcomes before and after lung transplantation. However, the biological basis of t…

Certainly greater challenges to manage after txp - transfusion needs 🩸, CMV risk 🦠, cancer by PTLD 🦀, airway issues 🫁). But novel and proactive strategies may help (?androgens, ?⬇️ immunosuppression). Lung txp 🫁♻️ saves & improves lives in 🫁 disease, telomere issues or not! ~ Dr. Tokman (Norton AZ)

The immune response to CMV can be good and bad for #transplant recipients. Here, we identified T cells associated with effective CMV control. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Cytomegalovirus-associated CD57 + KLRG1 + CD8 + TEMRA T cells are associated with reduced risk of CMV viremia in kidney transplantation and chronic allograft dysfunction in lung transplantation
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection threatens outcomes across solid organ transplantation, but organ-specific differences in CMV immunity are incompletely…

An injury-induced mesenchymal-epithelial cell niche coordinates regenerative responses in the lung
Severe lung injury causes airway basal stem cells to migrate and outcompete alveolar stem cells, resulting in dysplastic repair. We found that this “stem cell collision” generates an injury-induced ti...
