From what I remember, I would just write different stories abt this guy, “Captain Buttermilk,” and his crew of pirates(?) as they’d travel to different islands to do go on adventures. Islands like…vampire island, meatball island, etc. just an excuse to draw funny stuff I’d thought up that day.

Ok so I’ve never actually drawn these dudes before and I’m not gonna lie I immediately get the appeal. I also think I coincidentally had an extremely similar character to Finn that I’d doodle all the time in high school (which is pre-AT, I am old,) I’m gonna try to remember what he looks like rq

Something I think abt often is Toriyama’s attitude abt character design- I think there’s an interview where he said he liked doing DQ art because he only had to draw a design once-and another where he talked about how hard Cell was to draw over and over in DBZ.

Honestly something that drives me nuts is “baby’s first” being a criticism at all. I loved that E33 was a love letter to tons of games I’ve played. People who are unfamiliar with those games that love it despite not seeing the homage? That’s called being -accessible- and is a GOOD THING.
The thing that's never sat with me re:criticism about Expedition 33 being "baby's first JRPG" is that the people who actually made the game couldn't be more consistently reverent about their influences.

Dragon Quest doodle. Playing through the remake of DQ1 right now, and I love how many NPCs bring up their great granpappy and how he helped Erdrick way back when.

Sketchbook doodle from yesterday. I recently have been playing with the proportions of HD’s “gorget” armor that comes out from under his cowl, I think I like it better bigger, it makes his upper half look kinda weirdly proportioned when it’s small like it is here

I replayed Golden Sun/The Lost age for the first time in uh...I don't want to say 20 years, but...
I wanted to do a fanart piece as a warmup but realized that the character art is largely millenium-era anime nonsense, So I tried some soft redesigns of Felix and Isaac for fun
