@kirkkorner Hi Tristan, can I pick your brains? I'm CVPing into Westminster Mags, they've let me in, but there's no sound or video (video was on, but then got turned off). Is this normal? Not how it's done in Sussex, and I'm nervous I'll miss the case I'm covering

It's a bit distressing, but worth watching this clip for the sterling work from the lady with the walking stick

Of course I wouldn't report on a court case just because of the defendant's name.

Found an old heart rate monitor this week - must be almost 20 years old - and amazingly got it to talk to my phone. I now know I burn as many calories playing the flute for an hour as I do cycling up and down Brighton's hills for 15 minutes

In court, where we are waiting for the bench to come back and meanwhile the defendant is happily snoring in the dock

Oh joy - I've had my first comment from someone who appears to have used ChatGPT to slag off my work, sigh.

In court today for an absolute rollercoaster of a trial. Looking forward to writing up later, but the one detail I'll share now to give a flavour is that the defendant brought his own bible to swear his oath on

Thinking of starting a compilation of all the different ways the council says "hemmed in by the Downs and the sea" in official documents. I've seen two to add to the collection just today

In court and not for the first time wishing I could take a picture of the public gallery graffiti where someone has altered SMASH THE STATE to read MASH THE TATE

Ping! Email from TV researcher. Would you like to appear on a TV doc about a court case we didn't cover, to discuss the trial of a man who pleaded guilty.

I've found myself in a battle with @wsccnews.bsky.social who are refusing to release an excel version of a document outlining how £42m is being spent on its highways

Bit navel gazing to write about it, but it's also our job to highlight this kind of thing

Just had a call from a Conservative press officer, Gareth Parker. Explained why the story isn't for us, his response? "I bet you vote Lib Dem darling, don't you?"

The words people cap up in official documents are bizarre. I can kind of see why job titles get that treatment, but why is "Electrical Wiring, Heating and Drainage Systems" worthy of proper noun treatment?

Emailed a neighbour about a quirky planning application story I'm writing. Nothing controversial.

She told me she'd only talk to me if I came to her house to interview her for a feature about her unrelated business.

Almost admiring the brass neck of it in some ways :D
