One great tool for making visualizations of DEMs derived from lidar point clouds is Aerialod. Lots of options to render 3D models in different lightning. In the new 0.2 version, we have RGB overlays! Stonehenge landscape 3D render.

One of my favourite archaeological sites. Prehistoric and late antiquity hillfort Ajdoščina above Rodik, Slovenia. Most archaeological features visible on lidar visualization are from the late antiquity phase (4-6 century).

Managed to get to the only hillfort I haven't visited before in our local area at Crowthers Coppice just north of Welshpool. Impressive earthwork defences in the woodland along the footpath and a lidar view for comparison. The site of a huge hoard of late Bronze Age metalwork found in 1862.
