Espressif hired a bunch of Rust devs years ago and they have been quietly doing great work supporting Rust on their chips ever since. Still haven’t seen any other chip companies get close.

So far Liquid Glass has been better than I feared on iOS. The new transitions are nice. But it's so ugly on macOS.

I’ve been sick in bed for a week (likely covid stratus variant) and I’d like a rogue like to play on iOS. Any suggestions for something that doesn’t had f2p or micro-transaction game mechanics?

Progress on my new GUI toolkit for embedded Rust. It’s coming along nicely but I need some input.

I installed iOS26. Liquid Glass is … fine? There’s some inconsistencies and lack of polish but it’s not as big of a change as the internet made me think. I haven’t tried the new macOS yet though.

AI is a technology, not a product. Once some one finds a use for AI that makes money, the general purpose systems will be replaced by more efficient targeted ones, and we might not call it AI anymore. www.dbreunig.com/2025/08/01/d...
Does the Bitter Lesson Have Limits?
Recently, “the bitter lesson” is having a moment. Coined in an essay by Rich Sutton, the bitter lesson is that, “general methods that leverage computation are ultimately the most effective, and by a l...

Hubble Space Telescope images of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS are out! These were taken 5 hours ago. Plenty of cosmic rays peppering the images, but the comet's coma looks very nice and puffy. Best of luck to the researchers trying to write up papers for this... archive.stsci.edu/proposal_sea... 🔭

I noticed that #crypto values are on a tear lately. Is something going on in the real world to drive up values?

Why are we using AI to write code? Code is to tell a computer to perform a task. AI is a computer. Why aren't we just having the AI do the task directly, and if the answer is because it's unreliable then why are we asking it to write code? ;)

Science fiction is never really about the aliens. It’s about us. It’s not really about the future. It’s about the present. It’s not really about “them”. It’s really about us. SF is always a reflection on current society and our current problems.

Good software is honest about its limitations. It doesn’t make promises it can’t keep. It is conservative in what it outputs and never violates expectations.

LLMs are not good software.

Why does my iPhone have an app for my glucose sensor, which is synced with Apple Health, yet Siri cannot answer the simple question “What is my current blood sugar level”?

LLMs are powerful but they are just technology, not magic. It’s going to take time for us to figure out what they are good for, and what they are bad at. Using them blindly is just reckless.

I posted to my family chat this morning: "Good morning. Happy 249th Birthday America. You don’t look a day over 238. 😉" My 14 yr old son's immediate response "I wonder what stupid thing trump will do today". I fear my Gen X cynicism may have rubbed off on my child.
