It has been devastating.

I will not live peacefully with this rampant tyranny.
Also, a woman was handcuffed at a subway station in NYC (Franklin Ave) when she intervened asking why a delivery man was asked to show work permit by undercover agents. There is a video of that.

Scientists: do not assume your senators and reps are aware of what is happening with science! We talked to a US senator yesterday who had NO idea. Member education is critical and it falls to us. 15 minute zoom meetings with legislative aides can make a huge difference and YOU can do this! 🧪 🇺🇸

The study section that was supposed to happen this week was "postponed", but this is just another way of saying cancelled. Future cycles, who knows.
February 25, 2025 at 6:41 PM
meanwhile, the administration cancelled another NIH study section. NMBH RIP. It is criminal.
February 25, 2025 at 6:35 PM
The NMBH study section "postponed" last minute.

There were some really great applications in contention.
Criminal.

I just want to say, that I and, all my fellow scientists, are very very nervous right now about our research budgets.

The lived experiences, abilities, impairments, determinants of quality of life, and the biological causes vary so much within autism that I question whether having an autism diagnosis tells us much of anything about who that person is, who they are like, and who might act as their representative.

Of all that is happening, the NIH planned cuts to Indirect Costs concern me least...because they are the least likely to stick. Case in point:
www.al.com/news/2025/02...

Even in Alabama, bankrupting your universities is not looked upon warmly. Looks like Katie Britt got some feedback.
Katie Britt vows to work with RFK Jr. after NIH funding cuts cause concern in Alabama
UAB and UAH are among Alabama institutions that could be affected by cuts.

No way the governor of Virginia will let Virginia Tech go bankrupt, for example. This will get broad push back.

It really is quite something. Nice to see it from the top of mountain on the nearby hike too.

#NIH Trump shoots first, retreats later.
No way those cuts NIH tweeted about will happen like that.
You think Republican governors will let their research institutions go bankrupt?
Nope.
It's not going to happen.

The US government has been turned over to a group of extraordinarily ignorant people, and they are working to destroy science in this country. Cutting over half the NSF budget would save < 0.1% of the federal budget, but do incalculable harm. Simply heartbreaking.

White House budget proposal could shatter the National Science Foundation
“This kind of cut would kill American science and boost China.”…
