Flooding is the main risk of the storm in #Vermont, with at least minor impacts particularly late Sunday into Monday. Rapid snowmelt & up to 1 inch of rain may push some rivers to moderate flood stage. Ice jam flooding is also a concern, especially on the Winooski, Lamoille, and Missisquoi. #VTwx

Putting aside those first few newborn sized outfits for giving away is something else. They look so small, and yet just a week or so ago she fit into them! #Parenting

Once again, @thevpo.bsky.social cuts through the bullshit and provides critical context to what’s going on in Montpelier. John always points out the little things—like the ties a committee chair has to independent schools—that are often ignored but are important for the public to know. #VTpoli

Today I learned that if you download the #Shazam app on your #iPhone (which has been owned by #Apple for a while), you get an important extra feature when using the Shazam button in your iOS Control Center—saving recognized songs to a special #AppleMusic playlist!

Any #ClothDiaper #parents here?

It was always our intent to use cloth, but a case of disposable-induced diaper rash pushed us full time.

I am enamored with Green Mountain Diaper’s Workhorse line. Nearly as easy to use as disposables but all cotton like a prefold. Can’t recommend it more highly.

Sitting here in the dark of the night, #parenting a newborn has led me to wrestle with this question: do I need a countertop water distiller?

It’s more than just a time or expertise issue. Semi-regularly I have people show up at my door out of nowhere to yell at me about entirely ministerial acts fully supported by the rules of the boards I serve on. Always happy to chat with folks, but no one volunteers to be abused. #VTpoli

Me, 2 am: at least we’re on #parenting leave for the time change. Time has no meaning.

Wife: yeah, does anyone really know what time it is? Does anyone really care about time?

Me: Ha.

W: What.

M: Chicago.

W: the musical?

M: no, the band, the song.

W: what the hell are you talking about.

Happy Town Meeting Day, #Vermont! TMD is an incredible expression of direct democracy; it is inspiring to see people of all political stripes put that aside, sit down, and figure out their town budget on the floors of town halls throughout our state. I hope you’ll go if you are able! #VTpoli

I didn’t have “get emotional when my daughter’s birth certificate and social security card showed up in the mail” on my #parenting bingo card.

#Parenting nightmares: it’s 2 AM, you’ve just cleaned up a blowout—and all you have left are the outfits with snaps.

Like many of you I do my best to keep up with the #news, but I find myself wanting to offset the daily drumbeat with #LongFormJournalism on a variety of interesting non-news topics.

Are there any apps/websites that aggregate this type of #journalism and not news? RSS feeds work too. Thanks!

#Parenting a newborn is like an idler video game. For each eat/diaper cycle I get to meet one of my needs—maybe eating, or sleeping, or even snuggling the baby. It’s a resource management issue of figuring out which bar is lowest in my stats right now.

Sleep deprevation as a new parent is real. That’s why it’s extra special fun to find out right before you go to bed that something got corrupted on your Raspberry Pi and you have to rebuilt your setup from scratch before you can turn off any lights in your house and go to sleep. #SmartHomeProblems

After having a baby for about 10 days, I’ve decided that zippers > snaps. Holding out to decide where magnets fit in the onesie fastener power rankings.

Crazy #Vermont #weather in the next 48 hours. Expect heavy snow transitioning to sleet and freezing rain, with potential ice accumulation over 0.25 inches in southern counties. Winds will gust up to 60 mph, increasing the risk of power outages. Bitter cold follows Sunday night into Monday. #VTwx

When we brought our newborn daughter home from the hospital, we found this sign sitting at the end of our driveway.

It is incredible living in a community where people love and support you like this. It’s one of the things that makes our #Vermont community special.

Welcome home, Baby B!

Glad I took a moment to review the 24-hour time-lapse from yesterday. The moon was so bright -- even through the clouds -- that it made the existing snow cover sparkle like fireflies! I snipped out a short which can be seen here:

I wanted a timeline about #Vermont politics, so I made a feed that only shows posts and replies with #vtpoli. It will show posts moving forward, which is why it’s pretty empty right now.

As a legislator and as a citizen, I always appreciated the work of @thevpo.bsky.social. John’s blog dives deep into the lesser known political stores of our state, following the work in committees and shining a light on the most challenging subjects, like homelessness. Give him a follow! #vtpoli

Please read this profile of the unsung heroes of the #Vermont General Assembly, its lawyers. They were outstanding colleagues—brilliant, effacing, and hard working. It was wonderful working with them. #vtpoli

My wife’s induction was postponed (long story). Today at the #library, the phone rings and I hear our librarian say, ‘Oh, the doctors delayed it. They’re shooting for next week.”

Love that you can call the library for that kind of update here and get one! #Libraries are the original social network.

Five years ago, my wife and I visited California’s Wayfarers Chapel, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Jr. It beautifully blended architecture and nature, making the trees part of the sacred space. I feel lucky to have experienced it, as I recently learned it was disassembled due to mudslides.
