I am a photographer currently based between Canberra, ACT and Narooma, NSW. I am following my passion to photograph Australia’s wonderful wildlife and nature.
For CIT course I had to produce a folio of 15 images, I decided my folio would be about the beauty of birds in flight. Honestly, I underestimated the challenge but I learnt a lot. The image below was my favourite. The other 14 images are at www.jonsteinbecknaturephotography.com.au/galleries/th...

In late October I stopped at Rowes Lagoon on the way back from Sydney to Canberra, & came across this Mainland Tiger #snake (Notechis scutatus). I took this head shot when it came onto the mown area & I was lying down. I was very happy to capture it head on. #wildlifephotography #naturephotography

A Rainbow Lorikeet takes flight from a balcony in #Sydney in mid-October. I was really happy with this capture of a beautiful #bird, which also helps pollinates plants. Although, I was very conscious of pointing my long lens at somebody's house. #birdphotography #wildlifephotograpy

A Rainbow Lorikeet takes flight from a balcony in #Sydney in mid-October. I was really happy with this capture of a beautiful #bird, which also helps pollinates plants. Although, I was very conscious of pointing my long lens at somebody's house. #birdphotography #wildlifephotograpy
An Australasian Darter at Jerrabomberra Wetlands in late October removing a feral Redfin Perch from the ecosystem & having a meal. This is the moment the bird is flicking the fish around to eat it head first. #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #bird

Marking #WorldAnimalDay 2025, "Save the #animals, save the planet." We all share the Earth & all species have their place. Beyond preserving animals so that we survive, we also derive enjoyment & mental respite from the beauty of animals, such as this Black Swan at Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra.

Very happy two of my photographs were Commended in the #Animals category of the Mono Awards 2025, my first result in a photography competition & a very pleasant surprise. Many thanks to the judges of the Mono Awards 2025 & a big congratulations to the winners who created some inspiring works of art.

I didn't go very far to photograph this Sulphur-crested #cockatoo. I was happy with this photo because I was able to catch the light behind the cockatoo with a hint of illumination of the crest and with the bokeh in the background. #bird #wildlifephotography #photography #birdphotography

In mid-June I photographed this Nankeen Kestrel perched on a convenient sign at the start of a coastal walk south of #Narooma, NSW. These birds eat a variety of small animals allowing them to find food more easily than specialist feeders. #bird #birdlife #wildlifephotography

Found this female Wingless Soldier Fly with her ovipositor (for laying eggs) buried in a wooden gate post at Central #Tilba - she is actually facing downwards - she doesn't bite & her larvae will often prevent other bothersome fly larvae being present #insects #macrophotography

8 June is #worldoceanday2025 - Hopefully the UN Ocean Conference starting tomorrow progresses the sustainable use of the oceans - & #Australia finally ratifies the High Seas Biodiversity Treaty, please - science is showing how much our life on the land depends on the health of the #oceans. #nature
