In my mind, there aren't two Talos games but four: The Talos Principle, Road to Gehenna, The Talos Principle II, and Road to Elysium. It's a shame so many people don't play DLCs these days, because these are basically sequels. (In the Beginning feels more like a short story.)

When something horrific happens and you're encouraged to pretend it's OK so that you still belong to whatever group you're told to identify with, you are being dehumanized and indoctrinated. You know the obvious moral truth and you're damaging your brain to fit in.

The undisguised barbarism of our time didn't come from nowhere. It's the latest iteration of policies that go back decades, which politicians of every major party have supported. As the global crisis deepens, these policies become more crude and more obvious.

The Stranger Things finale reminded of the most important truth about TV storytelling: deep down, what we crave to see is people talking to each other. Everything else is garnish.

When I am spectacularly sick, as I am right now, I feel profoundly grateful to live in an era when we have at least a basic grasp of medicine. My suffering is greatly lessened thanks to the ingenuity and hard work of so many people who came before.

Very grateful that Talos is the kind of game where the characters can write poetry and the audience can appreciate it. www.reddit.com/r/TheTalosPr...

Still can't fully believe we made a game about historical materialism, eco-austerity, and Prometheanism. But really it's the characters that stayed with me the most - I loved those guys. One more story to go...
Today, The Talos Principle 2 turns two years old!

The world endures - not through flesh, but through thought.

I just checked and I'm very happy to see that thousands of people still listen to Gospels of the Flood every year. For such a niche show about such heavy topics, that's wonderful.

The ultimate postmodern artwork: a hollow shell that means nothing and moves no-one, but "sparks conversation." This really is the apotheosis of everything critics and academics defended for five decades: no author, no vision, no meaning. Just an IP with a human face.

I've had Master of Orion II installed since it came out, and I've almost never destroyed a planet. Nor do I play it for ruthless dominance. Combat is the least interesting part of the game for me. I love exploring, building multi-species societies and winning through diplomacy.

A few weeks ago he had lost his mother, had a huge thorn in his eye, and was screaming in fear under a car. Now he is the lord of his house, always playing, always safe. Maybe sometimes good things do happen.

The entire insanity of our time can be summed up as: we have a technology (the state apparatus) that can be applied to fix our large-scale problems, and we are told over and over that it can't be by the very people who control that technology and use it to enrich themselves.

Gospels of the Flood by @jonaskyratzes.bsky.social is amazing!!! I knew of it when it was released because Chris Christodoulou (whom I love) did the music, but I wasn't ready for the themes and didn't get through the first episode :') I finally listened and it's now one of my favorite works ever ❤️

One of the best things about creating your own projects is the ability to invite people you admire to participate in them. People like Peter Wingfield or Adam Green or Sean Branney, who can have a transformative impact on what you're creating.

The new audio drama also marks my third collaboration with Peter Wingfield, in a totally different role than Byron or the narrator from Gospels of the Flood, and working with Peter never stops being insanely fun. But I could rant and rant about how much I love all the actors.

I'm struggling a bit with having far too much work at the moment (turns out at 41 you can't work sixteen hours every day anymore), but if you like my writing, there's a lot of good stuff coming. I'm particularly excited about the new audio drama. So many wonderful actors!

I'm going to need to rebuild some kind of proper internet presence where people can follow my work, but I find it almost unbearably difficult to engage online anymore. The very fabric of the discourse is so corrupted now, you don't even know where to start.

With Days Gone being in the news again, I just wanted to mention how much I loved the writing and storytelling in that game, and how sad it makes me that it was dismissed and belittled in the press based on vague first impressions. It's a long, layered, moving human story that deserved a lot more.
