The director Yasuhiro Kimura mentions that he had to restructure the early chapters of Steel Ball Run for the anime. It no longer begins with Sandman in Episode 1.

The first round was a tape audition. My manager is a huge JoJo fan. I myself had read Steel Ball Run thoroughly in preparation before that audition, but with my manager’s advice I felt more reassured going into it. It really helped to have such a big fan watching over me, and I felt I was able to polish my performance more. When I advanced to the studio audition, there was that 'Ora Ora' line. I thought it was incredibly important. So, from the moment I was told I had passed to the studio audition, I was constantly muttering it, from when I woke up to when I was in the bath. I thought, 'I have to get this ‘Ora Ora’ part right.' Thanks to that, I left the studio audition feeling confident that I had at least nailed that part the best. I feel that Johnny is a very human character. He shows things like the weaker sides of people, even a bit of patheticness at times, and I think that's part of his appeal. Despite showing that weakness, he's a character who still manages to rise again. That's the kind of person I see him as, and that's what I strive to express in my performance. There have been a lot of setbacks in my life up until now... and also running away from difficult things or getting discouraged. But at the very last moment... my way of thinking does a complete 180. I feel like 'If I'm going to fail here anyway, I might as well fall forward.' There are a lot of pressures, but I think the only thing I can do is to squeeze out my soul in front of the microphone and produce my voice, so I'm trying not to think about anything else and do my best.

Guile's new EX Color in Street Fighter 6 is based on Jean Pierre Polnareff, adding onto the numerous JoJo references in Guile's design.

In Street Fighter II, he was modeled after Polnareff and Stroheim. His name originates from J. Geil due to a mix up from the staff.

Nobutaka Kasama and Noriko Dohi (producers from David Production and Warner Bros. Japan) reveal how they prepared for the Steel Ball Run: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime.

Steel Ball Run is set in North America at the end of the 19th century. How are you preparing for that? Nobutaka Kasama: The setting is a race across the continent, so if we seriously tried location scouting in America we’d end up wandering for months (laughs). Instead, we’ve gone to riding clubs and received supervision from specialists well-versed in the culture and customs of the American frontier. In Japan, there are only a few experts with valuable resources from that era, so their cooperation has been an enormous help. Noriko Dohi: Fans of JoJo may already know this, but Stone Ocean marks a turning point where the world resets. Because of that, I think that Steel Ball Run can be seen as a fresh start, as well as a series that newcomers can watch easily. We discussed the idea of making something that would be accessible even to people who had never engaged with JoJo before. Nobutaka Kasama: Mr. Araki has written in things like his afterwords that by Part 6 he felt he had done all he could with Stand battles. For Part 7, he wanted to portray the majestic image of horses galloping and kicking up dirt. As a team we all want to capture that dynamism in the anime. Another feature is that while Parts 3–6 were team-based, Part 7 is a buddy story with Johnny and Gyro. Two people with missing pieces come together, influence one another, and grow. That kind of drama is easy for anyone to relate to. And since it will likely take a fairly long episode count to tell, I think viewers will be able to grow alongside the series as they watch. As Ms. Dohi mentioned, many people thought the anime would end with Stone Ocean. So when we announced the Steel Ball Run anime, the worldwide response was huge. Please look forward to it. The staff is very motivated.

The preview for the English Steel Ball Run volume 3 is out on VIZ's site. The localized names for the Stands are the same as All-Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven: Tusk is unchanged, while Scary Monsters is Frightening Monsters.

David Production producer Nobutaka Kasama shared that Hirohiko Araki is involved with anime-original scenes in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, including naming previously unnamed characters. He added that this is also the case in the upcoming Steel Ball Run anime.

Q: The anime's original scenes often become a topic of discussion. How are those created? Kasama: Basically, we ask Mr. Araki things like, “What were you feeling when you drew this?”, “Can you tell us this character's background?”, or “Could you give a full name to a character who doesn't have one?” and then proceed based on his answers. It's the same for Part 7. When we first launched the anime, one of the things we asked him about was the principles behind JoJo's posing. This is secondhand, so it might not be completely precise. Putting it roughly, his advice was: “Rather than focusing on small details, emphasize sketching with the skeleton in mind. Only when you go as far as dislocating the joints does it really become a pose.” With that in mind, we told the animators, “Take off the restraints of common sense.” At first, everyone drew in a way that would be considered the common practice for an artist. So we'd send their work back saying, “More! Push it to the point where it looks like the joints are popping!” Bit by bit, they got the feel of what makes something look JoJo-like.
