Barbados Wild Life Reserve always brings Anne and I back to Guyana, especially the Caiman and Macaws. We arrived at monkey feeding time but only one turned up - with so many ripe mango trees nearby farms the troop had better fare on offer!

In today’s sermon at St John’s, I unpack Luke 21:5–19 as apocalyptic writing that lifts the lid on history’s battle between good and evil. Jesus foresaw the Temple’s fall; we’re called to endure, pray, do right and trust God’s kingdom is being formed even amid turmoil. twisleton.co.uk/sermons

Though we mainly self cater at Bishop Wilfred’s in Barbados we spoil ourselves a couple of times in our fortnight at New China Garden Chinese restaurant.

Happy retirement = a flexible routine for body, mind, spirit + sociability. In Barbados that’s a 5am beach walk to 6:30 Mass, an evening sea dip, choral Daily Prayer with Bishop Wilfred, Downton Abbey with rum & coke, and bed by 8pm.

Spot the Plough (Big Dipper) on the left of this Ursa Major diagram. Follow the two end stars up to find the North Star. Greek myth says Hera turned Callisto into a bear, and Zeus put her safely in the sky. More at twisleton.co.uk/night-sky

We are ending a fortnight in our second home at Oistins, Barbados with Bishop Wilfred Wood. Constant sunny 30 degrees so sea dips at Miami Beach every day and star-gazing walks before dawn to get exercise. The hire car helps cool exploration of the island and entertains with Caribbean radio.

The Shard and Cutty Sark, old and new sights on London’s Thames, readily accessed by Anne and I as we took an Uber boat back from Greenwich.

Today I’m reminded of saying a prayer last month with Anne in the beautiful Guards’ Chapel off St James’s Park for our military, their Chaplains and all who have given their lives in the service of our country.

Married in Guyana, Anne and I trained local priests, then worked in the UK. Our book Journeying Together tells our story with Anne’s paintings, mixing science and faith, helping people in need, and facing Alzheimer’s together. On Amazon in paperback or Kindle.

Anne and I frame our London outings around a lunchtime concert - here at St James’s Piccadilly - and evening sung worship in Westminster. Such a blessing to be so near to music making, awesome yet with free access, though we usually click a donation.

When I lived with Amerindians in Guyana, my cool rating shot up after I predicted an eclipse from my Astronomy mag 🌕😎
In the rainforest, we felt awe for creation — the moon’s brief “disappearance” amazed everyone! 🌍✨
Why it turns copper? Earth’s shadow + sunbeams! 🔥

On All Souls’ Day we remember those who’ve died. Bosch’s paintings show vivid scenes of life after death — Anne and I saw his 500th anniversary show in Venice. Today we share a quiet Requiem with a friend who lost his wife, mindful that real joy comes from the One who conquers death — Christ.

🌟 On All Saints’ Day we remember real Christian inclusion—being one with all who’ve lived and died in Christ, still alive with us in the power of the resurrection. Not just this-world politics, but heaven’s family! Full sermon: twisleton.co.uk/sermons

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11am thousands gather at Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard. Anne and I accompanied them last Friday on our regular London day out.

Despite the news, it was another royal who followed me last week — Queen Mary, consort of George V. Anne and I saw her plaque off The Mall on Friday, then on Sunday I said Mass at St Mary’s, Balcombe, where she knelt in prayer on 24 Oct 1931. May she rest in peace.

Orion, the great hunter, shines as the most glorious constellation from UK skies — a beacon across cultures: Greek hero, Egyptian Osiris, Maori canoe, Amerindian hunter. Always inspiring awe. More at twisleton.co.uk/night-sky/

It hardly seems like a fortnight since I was with my friend Harry in Marseille enjoying up to 30 degrees, brilliant views, walks along the Corniche, enjoying ice creams and awesome sunsets viewed from his place. Thanks, mate!

Great to get out to sea from Vieux Port last week and visit Chateau d’If on the island in the bay with stunning views on the return journey of Marseille. The city has captivating power as a scenic ‘working-class’ city full of life protected by mountains and overlooking brilliant sea-scapes.

How can we live a simpler Christian life — clear in faith, prayerful, Spirit-led? The Jesus Prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner,” is a timeless tool: biblical, memorable, and transformative (Luke 18:9-14). More in today’s sermon 👉 twisleton.co.uk/sermons/

Saw the crown before it was regilded and replaced by helicopter on Mary’s statue at Marseille’s Good Mother Basilica — stunning views! Model ships inside mark prayers answered in sea storms. Scaffolding comes down 8 Dec, Mary’s feast day.

Lovely to have Anne back from respite which we celebrated yesterday by going to the cinema in Crawley to see Downton Abbey Grand Finale, an absorbing and engaging 2 hours of spectacle!
