Clearheaded opinion piece about NATO without US from James Stavridis, a retired US Navy admiral. It is certainly possible, and in principle even advantageous, for Europe to go alone. It will take about 5 years to get to current levels of security.

Been talking all day with Copilot about US debt development. We discovered a striking linear relationship between distribution of maturities for bonds (reflecting market risk evaluation) and US debt over the last 15 years. According to our projections US will reach fiscal exhaustion around 2033.

Another obvious insight about Trump. There are usually no ideological reasons for all the stuff he does. He is a pathological narcissist who lives off the attention offered by the scandal-driven dramaturgy of a reality show. There is going to be no end to his outrageous stunts in world politics.

Learning now that computer architecture is on the brink of a transition from x86 and ARM to open RISC-V based designs. It has enormous geopolitical consequences for security and economy, since the absolute US-centered dominance in chip tech will wither. I guess confrontation does not always work.

It occurs to me that the attitudes we have towards the intentionality of ChatGPT constitutes something in between fictional make believe and veracity-oriented attitudes. Make-believe contains awareness of falsity, but for LLMs this modification is a detached second order belief.

I hope the Trump ploy for Greenland is bleedingly obvious to everyone. Threaten annexation, make Denmark beg for talks, then negotiate for sale or major concessions. Europe must stand firm and be willing to risk military confrontation with US.
