The Running Man was the mystery screening at The Light tonight! It’s usually a low budget indie film so it was a big surprise. I really enjoyed it, just a very fun, stylish action thriller with a big dose of satire. Edgar Wright is very good at this filmmaking lark

It was @selfesteem.music-social.com’s homecoming gig last night and it was a triumph. Not a fan of arena gigs but this was pretty special

Watched the first episode of Sally Wainwright's Riot Women last night and it's absolutely outstanding. Rosalie Craig (who I've seen in many stage productions over the years) absolutely burns the screen in every scene she's in (and what an introductory scene).

Excellent Off The Shelf event with Nigel Planer tonight, I got to ask a question and even met the man himself

Going to watch episode 7 and, more importantly, EPISODE 8 (aka the Best Episode of TV EVER) of Twin Peaks The Return at the cinema tonight and I'm very excited about it.

Alt: a black and white photo of a gas station with a group of people standing in front of it . This is a scene from episode 8 of Twin Peaks The Return, and frankly, a text description doesn't really do it justice.

Just watched ep3 of Twin Peaks The Return at the cinema and still find it absolutely delightful that Showtime gave David Lynch a load of money and told him to make the absolutely weirdest shit he could think of.

Took my mum and sister on the Emmerdale Village tour today and it was honestly a very lovely day out.

An excellent evening at the Empire Magazine podcast live show, with special guests Tim Key and Tom Badsen (watch The Ballad Of Wallis Island, my film of the year). Thanks @chrishewitt.bsky.social, @jamescdyer.bsky.social and @helenlohara.bsky.social!

May have watched the worst film of 2025 this afternoon. What a stinker

In Tenerife on holiday at the moment and I’ve had the @cmatbaby.bsky.social album on repeat and Lord Let That Tesla Crash is an absolutely incredible song

Yes, @laurenlaverne.bsky.social playing Prefab Sprouts Lions In My Own Garden! I don’t think I’ve ever heard this on the radio!

Went to see a preview of Eddington tonight and good god what a mess of a film. Easy contender for worst film of 2025 (and I normally like Ari Aster)

Wasn’t expecting Alien: Earth to be particularly good but it’s absolutely brilliant. Noah Hawley has done it again

Discovered the joys of an afternoon cinema trip during this sick leave, it feels gloriously indulgent. Going to see Together tomorrow lunchtime

Three questions answered correctly on Only Connect and Wordle in 2 today, at least 5 weeks of sick leave hasn’t affected my brain (as yet)

Just out from Weapons, absolutely loved it. Scary, funny, compelling, may well end up being my film of the year

Should have been going to Edinburgh tomorrow for my 14th Fringe. Sadly, I had to cancel last week as I’ve not properly recovered from my surgery.
Gutted, and lost nearly £700 in accommodation costs and travel but I wouldn’t have enjoyed it.
August 2, 2025 at 8:24 PM
Pro tip - if you ever have surgery and about 2 weeks later you think “oh I feel fine, I’ll do normal stuff like go to the cinema now”, I’m here to tell you to not do that under any circumstances

Attempting my first train journey since the surgery today (to Formby). I’ve felt a bit dodgy for the last few days so not looking forward to it by it hopefully I’ll be fine by the time I get to Formby 🤞

Went to see Superman last night and was genuinely delighted that they used Noah & The Whale’s 5 Years Time as a needledrop for a big action set piece
