Donald Parker, one of our peer support workers, shared this poem at the memorial service held to honour those who passed over the past year. His words beautifully capture the deep emotions and shared sense of loss we feel as we remember and honour the lives of those we have lost.

Our Oak Centre Shelter, a 30-bed low-barrier facility, provides a vital service. Between April 1 and October 31st, we have had our beds used 5468 times. Even during the warmer months, our occupancy rate was over 85%, and we anticipate that this will increase as we get into the colder weather.

On 5 July 1916, the Department of Defence and Militia authorized the formation of No. 2 Construction Battalion. It was the largest Black unit in Canadian history. On Remembrance Day, we once again laid a wreath in their honour.

We will remember!
