What destroys a country more quickly: the stammering insults of a sycophant or the incoherent lecturing to others about the historical precedents of colonialism?

Six years ago, I published _Honors of Inequality: How Colleges Work for Some_, a study of the U.S. system of #highereducation and its "elite function" in inequality in America. Part 1 of the epilogue is now available on Substack.

During the COVID pandemic in 2020, I read my #historicalfiction / #fantasy _Arcane Cage_ to my mother via YouTube. In her 70s, she prefers audiobooks. I recorded each chapter as videos with 3-5 minute introductions. Here is the Preface.

A fantasy book in the genre of historical narrative (citations, etc.) - part social history of the origin of magic and part epic adventure.

I recently learned that I am "ghost" due to little-to-no social media presence...All this time, I thought I was IRL but had become ethereal. So, I updated my profile to reflect my real name and the things that I do to make ends meet. And I learned how to "follow back" -- all in one day!

@cnbc At least four of these five points about Trump's destructive
policies are verifiable with simple Google searches. Perhaps a featured
report is in order? Does he need to change his affiliation to Democratic
Party before you deem him a threat to free market capitalism?
What happens when someone with zero knowledge runs the country.

Liking the pairing of Mike Santoli and Melissa Lee midday on @cnbc. No needlessly contentious arguments or hosts with personal agendas to "make a point".

Nonetheless, I love the turn of phrase "slum house plutocracy" in this poem. He wrote this line before Trump's first term on the back of a bar receipt while he was in college. So prescient. #booksky #academicsky #poetry

The BRIC have not negotiated any trade deals, correct? Trump has made everything imported from our strongest allies more expensive. I am tired of winning. #tariffs

Federal grants are one key resource for entrepreneurs in all sectors, profit and nonprofit. Recent notices (NOFOs) on grants.gov have violated federal regulations.

Legal - Grant Professionals Association
On July 15, 2025, numerous notifications of funding opportunities for grants from multiple federal agencies were announced, with application due dates of July 29, 2025, which is a notification period of 14 days. This has been markedly or disproportionately true of grant programs funding much-needed services to support our most vulnerable populations and communities - youth, families, people with chronic health conditions, etc. The Code of Federal Regulations clearly states that agencies “should make all funding opportunities available for application for at least 60 calendar days.” It continues, “However, no funding opportunity should be available for less than 30 calendar days unless the Federal agency determines that exigent circumstances justify this.” (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-2/subtitle-A/chapter-II/part-200/subpart-C/section-200.204)

@cnbc Trump proclaimed a national emergency in order to take control of the US economy as his plaything. He is introducing 5 year soviet-style economic plans (tax cuts and trade deals that expire after his term). Get back to your roots, don't be fooled by your ideologues (Kernen, Cramer, Sullivan).
You all @cnbc look foolish when concerned about the Biden administration's principled regulations and unconcerned about the Trump administration's arbitrary regulations.
@cnbc.com Trump is the most governmentally regulatory President in US history. He is creating a managed economy. Tariffs (taxes: nuf said). Trade "deals" that specify the number of car imports from other countries (UK). Selling off AI technology to royal families. Hounding Apple about mfg plans...

Trump is using tariffs to solidify his administration as a Court to which all American industries must make supplication for special dispensations & exemptions. Hopefully, American business leaders will have the common sense to refuse Trump and assert their common interest in U.S. tariff policy.
NAWM regarded protective tariffs as an instrument of mutualism for all U.S. manufacturers: "All [industries] are directly interested in each other's success and prosperity -- each is the customer of all the rest." And, "All the industries are sisters: if we have one, we shall have all the others."
In the late 19th century, protective tariff policies were led by the industrial associations like the Nat'l Assoc of Wool Manufacturers. Every meaningful manufacturing association had input on the schedules. Tariff policy was never the prerogative of one President or one untested formula.
