This beautiful little ice fish (Channichthydae) is taking advantage of being in a bucket full of copepods to help himself to many snacks. This is called “net feeding” & can scew gut content analyses in net caught organisms. Ice fish are the only fish without hemoglobin #oceanography #zooplankton 🌊🐧🇦🇶

Not a great stack, but it gives you an idea of the glorious architecture of a Lagena sp. Foraminifera.

The delightful contract and stretch of a Trematode flatworm, no doubt on the hunt for a host to enact its parasitic ways.

We escaped the ice and have been science hard for 2 days - four full stations and a big factorial experiment setup! Very tired but very happy to be working. We caught Antarctic krill at one station, and lots of salps at all stations. Love the Green krill guts full of phytoplankton! #oceanography 🌊🇦🇶🦐

I /think/ this might be Thalassiophysa hyalina. I’d love to get a yay or nay from fellow plankton peeps. Plankton sample, southern North Sea, Norfolk coast UK. Apical axis = 64.1 um #marineplankton 🦑 #protistsonsky

I rarely get to see large ciliates like this in my plankton samples, so this is a real treat. Ciliate ID is definitely a weak spot for me. I’m thinking Hypotrichia?
