I'm a queer writer & teacher in London. My wife and children are Black, I do their hair. I have worked in West Africa, Italy and the States. I'm the winner of the Queen Mary Wasafiri prize for new writing, which still hasn't quite sunk in.
I love it when I can put living writers on my school curriculum. I imagine them wondering why they've suddenly sold 100 copies in London.

Jo Bardsley's micro-fiction 'A letter C' is a tale of deception and revenge which builds slowly.

Totally floored! I won the Wasafiri Prize for New Writing! I have won precisely 3 prizes in my ENTIRE LIFE - a poster competition in 1984, a set of Pyrex baking tins in 2009 and this! I am so honoured and amazed!

I went to visit the Houses of Parliament today. Best bit was the large security guard humming Sodapop as he scanned my bag

Book related tragedy today - my lunch leaked over my brand new book. Serves me right for attempting to eat fish at work.

I'm on the long list for this one - fingers crossed! The story has a really special setting for me, although it's on the other side of the world from the East Midlands

Issue 003: Undersong | Out 13.09

Something is rekindled in the grainy late-night livestreams of the Eras Tour. A fisherman wakes to sing back the dead. A disillusioned thirtysomething finds solace in piano renditions of the Beatles.

Researching for the novel, I just tried jellied eel for the first time. It's nice. You should try it.

I'm very interested in eels lately. I read Graham Swit's Waterland, which has good eel action

I saw somebody on TikTok using the word 'slopper' as a slur for people who use ChatGPT, and that's a thing we should start doing.

I swore I wouldn't write anything political here, but there is a Little People Big Dreams kids book about King Charles. Did someone change the meaning of 'Little' while I wasn't looking?
